We hope everyone had an enjoyable summer. The government of the Village of Tivoli was very busy and we'd like to tell you a few of the things that have been getting done over the past few months.
In June, two wonderful ceremonies preserving and promoting Village history took place. The original bell from Tivoli Union Free School was welcomed to its new home outside Village Hall with a lovely ribbon-cutting ceremony and well-attended reception. Two weeks later, the Village of Tivoli and Dutchess County honored living legend Claude Potts for his73 years of service in the Tivoli Fire Company by dedicating County Route 78 between Pine St. and Woods Rd. “Claude Potts Way”.
Also in June the Village's new, clean, handsome website went live! There you will find links to the assessment roll, local law and Village code, also a calendar of Village meetings and events, minutes of the Village Board, Planning Board, and ZBA, and other useful documents and information. And we hope you enjoy the great photographs of Tivoli!
July 30th saw the 26th annual Tivoli Yard Sale Day and on August 6th, despite the sweltering heat, residents, friends, and guests came out to Memorial Park for Tivoli Community Day. Everyone who made it enjoyed themselves. A lot of work went into pulling off Tivoli Day and we'd like to thank the Tivoli Fire Department, the Harris Smith Post of the American Legion, the members of the Monumental Lodge #374, the Tivoli Free Library, the Tivoli Day Committee and especially all the attendees. Tivoli Community Day 2016 was dedicated by the Village Board to Bonny Corrado, recently retired Director of the Tivoli Free Library, for her 30 years of incredible service to our community.
Also in August, the exterior of Tivoli Fire House received an attractive and protective coat of new paint. This month the interior bay floors will be recoated. Accomplishing these two large, long-needed projects will preserve this very important facility and the vital equipment housed therein.
Renovations continue in Tivoli's Historic Watts dePeyster Hall. Hopefully you've stopped in to see the handsomely restored Clerk's office. And as you read this, the re-plastering and painting of the court room will have just been completed.
Switching gears now, Tivoli residents will be interested to know that the final report of the year-long Rte. 9G corridor study has been posted online at:
This report studied safety conditions along the 9G corridor from Rte. 199 northward, including the intersection of Broadway and 9G. The report's recommended safety improvements will be submitted by the county to the NYS Department of Transportation, and with local support and pressure, many of them may begin to be implemented. There will be a final public meeting to discuss the many recommendations identified in the report at Red Hook Town Hall on 9/21 at 6 PM.
The Annual Water Quality Report is available for public review on the Village Website, and in the Village Clerk’s Office. Hard copies will be mailed in the December 1st water bill.
Looking ahead to autumn, the Village will be planting more bulbs and a dozen new trees as we continue our efforts to keep Tivoli attractive and healthy. Repairs will be made to the damaged stone work of the WW II memorial on Monument Hill. Tivoli will be the fortunate recipient of a donated outdoor chess table (also suitable for checkers!) like those found in NYC's Washington Square Park. A friend of the late Village Historian, Trustee and half-century resident, Bernie Tieger, has made this donation to be installed by the gazebo next to Village Hall.
We wish to remind residents that the Village Board remains committed to preserving the quality of life in this community and that means enforcing our noise and nuisance gathering laws. If you are disturbed by excessive noise between the hours of 10 PM and 7AM do not hesitate to phone the Dutchess County Sheriff's Deputies at
845-486-3800.
The 16th annual Tivoli Street Painting Festival takes place on Saturday, October 1, 2016. Watch for "Yarn Burst" this year. The Tivoli Free Library's knitting, crocheting, rug hookers group will array Broadway with yarn, while over 250 artists create chalk images on the pavement. The Acoustic Medicine Variety show will blend mellow sounds with this visual treat, and Tivoli's restaurants will offer special lunch offerings to all. Don't miss it!!
The content of these quarterly newsletters is just a taste of the many projects and pursuits underway by the Board of Trustees. Please remember Village Board meetings are the third Wednesday of each month at 7pm,and the minutes of these meetings can be read on the Village website. There is never an excuse not to know what is happening in your Village government. Taking just a few minutes a month, you can stay informed, and better yet, help this Board of Trustees make the best choices for Tivoli.
