MEETING MINUTES
August 4, 2010
Present: D. Bertch, G. Chandler, B. Kocher, C. Orr,J. Taylor
1.Call to Order – The meeting was called to order by B. Kocher at 8:30 a.m.
2.Meeting Minutes of July 7, 2010: The meeting minutes of July 7, 2010 were approved as distributed.
3.Cabinet Update: B. Kocher & D. Bertch provided an overview of the July 20 & 27 Cabinet meetings. A copy of the minutes will be distributed once approved.
- Cabinet approved the implementation of 15-week summer semesters effective with the start of the summer 2011 semester. Tentative beginning and ending dates were reviewed and will be shared when finalized.
- Received an update on Lab safety compliance and the chemical/hazardous waste audit that was recently conducted.
- Changes to the Purchasing Manual were reviewed as well as recommended changes to the Travel Manual.
- Reviewed the Disposal Policy and the need to clean out storage areas.
4.Fall 2010 Seminar Days: G. Chandler noted that the brochure for fall seminar days should be sent electronically in the next day or two.
5.Dean Search Update: The Dean of Business & Advanced Technology position has been reposted. Interviews for the Dean of Liberal Arts positionare moving forward.
6.Division Meeting Agenda: Common items for discussion/update will be reviewed at the August 11, 2010 meeting
7.Room Access: Briefly discussed the need to identify employee access to classrooms, offices and other areas at the college. D. Bertch will follow-up with K. Colby for additional information.
8.Reality Check: None.
9.Kudos! To Becky Herington and Sue Hills for the good job they are doing.
10.Travel/Professional Development: None presented.
11.Other
- D. Bertch distributed for review/discussion reports on online offering outcomes for fall 2009 and winter 2010 and noted that G. Fredericks will continue this work as a part of her Innovative Thinking Grant and is currently conducting a user survey.
- Jim Taylor will attend a MODAC meeting at Gogebic Community College August 5 & 6.
- Heard the Fire Marshall will inspect the new construction August 6 and that moves to new offices are tentatively scheduled to begin August 9.
