WATBike - Guided leisure bike rides for September 2015
Note: Wednesday evening rides start at 5pm now
Wed 2nd Sept / North Shields / 1715 / Meet at North Shields ferry landing to catch the 5.30pm crossing (£1.60), then cycling south via East Boldon and Gateshead, before returning over the Millennium Bridge and back to North Shields.Sat 5th Sept / Newbiggin / 1100-1500 / Dr Bike session at the relaunch of newly refurbished Newbiggin Leisure Centre
Sun 6th Sept. / Cobalt / 0900 / Cycle out via Ponteland, Aydon, and finish after 35 miles in lovely Corbridge for cuppa, then transport back.
Wed 9th Sept. / Cobalt / 0900 / ToB Northumberland 2 day ride. NOW CANCELLED. We will be doing a full day ride into Northumberland and view the Tour coming through and try and meet at the end point in Blyth.
Wed 9th Sept / Bedlington / 1200- 1 600 / Bike Activities - Dr Bike and Challenge kit on route of Tour of Britain. We will located just north of the Bedlington Golf Club, come and join us and see the Tour riders coming through about 3pm.
Wed 9th Sept. / Cobalt / 1700 / Nice steady evening ride out via Ponteland, Woolsington track, and back via Gosforth with a cheeky half enroute!
Sun 13th Sept / Blyth / 0800 / Self-led ride. Transport provided to take you up to Alnwick, then enjoy a self-led ride back to Blyth.
Wed 16th Sept. / Quorum / 1700 / Last ride of year from Quorum. A good ride out via Newcastle west, then down to the Tyne, and back via a few Bridges and back for a drink.
Sat 19th Sept / WATBike workshop / 0900-1500 / Fix it yourself session. A very practical hands on day – our mechanics will help you with getting bike in top condition, focusing on brakes and gears. You will replace your brake and gear cables, and get optimum set up. More details from Colin if interested.
Sun 20th Sept. / Blyth / 1000 / We are doing an easy and a mid-range ride in partnership with Active Northumberland, more details coming soon.
Wed 23rd Sept. / Blyth / 1700 / Circular ride out from Blyth, Stannington, Morpeth, Bothal bank and return for a drink.
Sun 27th Sept / Cobalt / 0800 / 75 mile Challenge ride. Transport will take us out to Stocksfield , then riding through Corbridge, big climb at Prospect Hill, Slaley, Derwent Reservoir, cuppa in Blanchland, back via Consett, Lanchester, Durham City, Sunderland and over ferry at South Shields – a good day out!
Wed 30th Sept / Cobalt / 1700 / Nice autumn ride out through urban areas of Wallsend, Byker, over some bridges, City, Gosforth and return.
Sat 3rd Oct / Cobalt / 0800 / Self-led ride. Transport out to Bellingham, the group can self-lead via Rievers (route 10) over 45+ miles and some great terrain back to Cobalt and home
Sun 4th Oct / Cobalt / 0830 / Bus transport out to Hexham area, ride back via the Hadrian’s Way to Tynemouth and home.
Wed 7th Oct / Blyth / 1700 / Heading for the 6pm North Shields ferry, then south to the Shipwright’s pub at South Hylton , before bus brings us back about 8pm.
Sat 10th Oct / Cobalt
CB, SW / 0800 / Advance notice. Cumbrian 2 day ride, Solway-Alston. Couple of places still available, more details from Colin if interested.
Meeting points:
a. Blyth will be from the large car park by Coastline Chippy restaurant at South Beach.
b. North Tyneside will be Car Park opposite Village Hotel
c. Killingworth will be by Shire Horse pub near Morrisons
2. No children under the age of 12
3. Only “standard” bikes, no recumbent bikes, tandems or 3 wheelers on these rides. We may be able to do rides with these types of bike by request, just call us.
4. Cost is normally £15 per head, (£10 for September unless otherwise stated), which includes pick up from the designated point, transport by minibus from there and return, this includes a place on the trailer for your bike. Payment can be made on the day of the ride.
5. A minimum of 8 riders are required to make each ride viable, if less than 8 we maintain the right to cancel and you will be offered a place on another ride.
6. If you want any particular type/length of ride, or maybe wish to take in a certain event or location, then let us know and we can design something to suit you.
7. These are leisure rides to be enjoyed; we want you to be able to appreciate some of the fabulous parts of the North East that you probably wouldn’t see from a car window. Fun, fresh air and gentle exercise! Each ride will have experienced guides to help you along, and in all cases there will be shortcuts should anyone find they are really struggling.
8. We suggest bringing a water bottle, and some snacks to keep your energy levels up, and we always try and end where we can get drinks/snacks. Wearing of cycle helmets is advisory.
9. All cyclists ride at their own risk, the Highway Code should be adhered to at all times. You are responsible for your own safety and should be aware at all times of other users of the roads and tracks.
