Aviation Fuel

Before you begin
Description
/ Aviation Fuel (Turbine Engine) also known as Jet –A and Jet Kerosene
A petroleum distillate.
Used as fuel for turbine-powered helicopters.
Category
/ Used oil.
Analysis
/ No laboratory analysis required
Accumulation
/ Contain in drums or portable tanks
Waste Reduction
/ ·  Consume entire product.
·  Send product to location that can use it.
·  Return to manufacturer for reuse.
·  If off spec or unfit for aviation, return to vendor for credit
·  Petroleum distillates (such as turbine fuel) can be returned to the production stream.
Disposal
/ ·  Return petroleum distillates to the production stream. (Material recycled this way must contain no halogenated chemicals Check for “fluoro”, “chloro”, and “bromo” on the MSDS of any material mixed with fuel.
·  Second choice is recycle at a state-approved used oil recycler.
Recordkeeping
/ List in the Hazardous Materials Section (Section I) of the Fieldwood Energy
Shipping Manifest prior to transportation.
·  Maintain a copy of manifest offshore and at shore base facilities while shipping papers are active. Send original manifest with shipment.
·  Retain records for three years.


Shipping Instructions: AVIATION FUEL

1. Call or FAX Dock/Base to schedule shipment.

2. Package fuel only in following containers:

a. Non-Bulk Packaging:

1. Steel drum 1A1 or 1A2,

2. Plastic 1H1 or 1H2 Drums.

b. Bulk Packaging:

1. DOT 51, 52, 53, 57, or 60 Portable Tanks

2. IMO Type 1, 2, or 5 or IM 101 or 102 Portable Tanks

3. Marine Portable Tanks

3.  Mark Package

a.  Mark container "Fuel, Aviation Fuel, or Turbine Engine Fuel, 3, UN1863, PGIII".

b.  Stencil Container-”Fieldwood Energy” and the generator's location (i.e. Eugene Island 158)

4. Label Package:

a.  "Flammable Liquid" label near the marking in 3.a, above.

b. For packages having a volume over 64 cubic feet (478 gallons) and for portable tanks of less than 1000 gallons: place labels on at least two ends (other than the bottom) or two sides.

5. Prepare shipping papers:

a. Complete entry in Hazardous Materials Section [Section I] of the Fieldwood Energy Shipping Manifest (See example)

6. Placard Vehicle/Vessel

a. If shipment is more than 1000 pounds or Bulk Shipments:

1. Placard with Flammable placard identified with the UN number 1863 or the word Flammable. Placard must have a number "3" on lower corner to indicate the product is a liquid.

2. If Flammable Placard is used without the number 1863, the number must appear in an orange block with black letters contained within a black border 6 1/4 inches high and 15 3/4 inches wide. (Note: 1000 pounds equals 145 gallons)

b. For cargoes less than 1000 pounds or Non-Bulk Shipments:

No placard required on transport vehicle.

c.  For cargo and Portable tanks, placard as above on opposing sides if less than 1000 gallons and on all four sides if more than 1000 gallons.

7. Load cargo in accordance with the following shipping limitations:

AIR / RESTRICTIONS (49 CFR 172.101)
Passenger Aircraft / 15 Gallons (60 Liters)
Cargo Aircraft / 55 Gallons (220 Liters)
WATER / RESTRICTIONS (49 CFR 172.101)
Cargo and Passenger Vessels / On deck or under deck
Other Requirements / None

8. Include MSDS with shipment.
