PRIVATE PHYSICIAN ATTENDING REGISTERED NURSE

SCOPE OF PRACTICE

Position Title: Private Physician Attending Registered Nurse

Department:Section of Medical Rehabilitation

RELATIONSHIP:

Specified Professional Personnel (SPPs) receiving clinical privileges must be employed by an active member of Renown Health Medical Staff (or group of physicians).

The hospital activities of the Specified Professional Personnel shall be under the supervision of the medical staff member(s) who initiates the application and who is responsible for the professional and ethical conduct of the SPP. They must also be the supervising physician in accordance with the requirement of the Nevada State Board of Nursing.

Reports to:Supervising physician and appropriate

Hospital personnel.

Other Internal Contact:Employees at all levels of the organization as involved in the patient care team, patients and physicians.

External Contacts: None

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:As defined by the Nevada State Board of Nursing to achieve licensure for Registered Nurse. (REQUIRED)

Experience:Must be employed by an active member of Renown Health Medical Staff, or group of physician.

(REQUIRED).

License(s) / Certification(s):Current Nevada Registered Nurse License (REQUIRED)

Current AHA BLS Card (REQUIRED)

NATURE AND SCOPE:

Consistent with the Nurse Practice Act of the NevadaState Board of Nursing, the RN. may perform following list of functions.

  1. May receive and document verbal orders from the supervising physician in the medical record in accordance to Renown Health policy #RENOWN.CID.O.175.
  1. May provide assistance to the supervising physician for procedure.
  1. May provide educational counseling for patients and families, which must documented in the appropriate section of the medical record.
  1. May assist in the collaborating with patient, family, significant others and health care team to identify present and predicted in the discharge planning. Must document planning in the appropriate section of the medical record.
  1. May communicate significant changes in patient status to the supervising physician.
  1. May Not administer medications
  1. May not give verbal orders.
  1. Patient rounds made by the RN shall not be considered as fulfilling requirement for medical staff member’s patient rounds.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  1. Accountability for conduct consistent with the Renown Health Code of Conduct.
  1. Accountability and ethical standard within guidelines of professional organizations
  1. Knowledge of Policy and Procedure for the areas of the Renown Health within which the SPP will function.
  1. Required to wear Renown Health Name Badge.
  1. Documentation of skills must be provided to:

a.Receiving and document verbal orders from the supervising physician in the medical record in accordance to Renown Health policy #RENOWN.CID.O.175.

b.Providing educational counseling for patients, families.

c.Communicate significant changes in the patient status to supervising physician,

SUPERVISION:

All entries in the medical record as permitted under the Nature and Scope, must be cosigned by the supervising physician within the next calendar day.

  1. The supervising physician is responsible for the action of the Rounding Nurse at all times.
