Instructions: Your project is to create a map of our state that shows our state, its land regions, major cities, important rivers, and other natural features. You must have all items below on your map to earn credit. Include this paper when you turn in your state map.

I. Cities-Using the map in your textbook on pages 6 & 7, locate the following cities. Label

them neatly next to the dot that represents that city on the map. CROSS OFF THE CITY

ON THE LIST AFTER YOU HAVE LABLED IT ON THE MAP.

that border our state. Labelthem neatly next to the line that represents the border on your map.

`III. Mountain Ranges and Mountains-Using the map in your textbook on pages 26 & 27,

locate and label the mountain ranges. Sketch in some ridges to show where the mountain

range is located. CROSS OFF THE MOUNTAIN RANGE OR MOUNTAIN ON THE

LIST AFTER YOU HAVE LABLED IT ON THE MAP.

Then, using the map in your textbook on pages 26 & 27, locate and label the following

mountains on your map.

IV. Title and Legend

a. Write the title of the map (Washington State) NEATLY above the map.

Center the title above the map.

b. Create a legend box that contains the following items:

THE FIVE LAND REGIONS OF WASHINGTON (see page 11)-PLACE A COLOR BOX IN FRONT OF THE NAME OF EACH REGION

DRAW A LINE THREE INCHES LONG. THIS WILL BE YOUR SCALE. LABEL THIS DISTANCE 100 MILES.

WRITE YOUR NAME ON THE BACK OF THE MAP

V. Coloring. The entire map is colored. DO NOT COLOR OUTSIDE THE STATE BORDERS, except for bodies of water mentioned below.

LAND REGIONS-Using the map in your textbook on page 11, locate the five land regions of Washington State. Use dotted lines to separate the regions. Color the region, then use that color in the appropriate box in the legend. DO NOT USE A BLUE PENCIL FOR THIS STEP.

BODIES OF WATER-Using a blue or blue-green colored pencil, highlight the rivers on the map. Then, very carefully color in the waters around Puget Sound, Hood Canal, and Whidbey and the San Juan Islands, and finally, the Strait of Juan de Fuca.

3) DO NOT COLOR THROUGH YOUR LABELS

4) COLOR EVENLY OR USE PROPER SHADING TECHNIQUES

5) COLOR MAP COMPLETLY

WHEN YOU HAVE COMPLETED THE MAP, BEFORE YOU TURN IT IN,

TAKE A PHOTO OF THE MAP AND

KEEP IT IN YOUR CAMERA ROLL.
