School –Based behavioral Intervention Services (SBBIS)

WCMHS has provided direct school-based behavioral and social skills intervention services to children and youth in Washington County schools since 1995. SBBIS serves children and youth with severe emotional and behavioral challenges as well as children and youth with an Autism Spectrum Disorder or other developmental disabilities. All children and youth receive SBBIS services through a contact with a school or state funding source. Ours is a year round program and our approach is predicated upon the principles of Applied Behavior Analysis and intensive case management services. We provide teams of three professionals to work with each child or youth in their home school or alternative placement. Each team consists of a behavioral interventionist to provide direct services to the child/youth, a behavior analyst to develop, evaluate and revise an individualized behavior change plan and a case manager to provide overall service coordination of the child/youth’s program and parent and family support.

Tier One and Tier Two Services

Tier One Services

Tier One services consist of behavioral treatment and social skills support for children and youth who are educated in their home schools. Tier one support is a collaborative effort between the public school and WCMHS in which the public school is responsible for curriculum and instruction while WCMHS staff provide the lead in behavioral treatment and social skills training.

Tier Two Services

In Tier Two services WCMHS provides both behavioral and social skills services and curriculum and instructional services through a specialized contract with the referring school. The curriculum may address “learning to learn skills”, communication skills, social and play skills, functional academic skills, adaptive behavior and daily living skills or vocational skills. Young children with an Autism Spectrum Disorder (ages 2-21 years) who require intensive, comprehensive Applied Behavior Analysis services such as discrete trial learning (DTL), Verbal Behavior, or Picture Exchange Communication System (PECS) may receive these services through our Tier Two model. Services may be provided in home, school or community settings.

Therapeutic Day Care

WCMHS provides a full day, year-round, licensed therapeutic child care program for children 0-3 years of age through a contract with a school or state funding source. Each child and family served though this nurturing and strengths-based program is connected with a Master’s Level Clinician who provides case management services, parent education & support via regular home visits, early childhood evaluations and collaboration with local community agencies and providers. This program also provides consultation Analyst support from a Board Certified Behavior who assists our Clinician to develop individualized curriculum supports for children with an Autism Spectrum Disorder.

Master of Arts Degree Program to Train Board Certified Behavior Analysts (BCBA’s)

WCMHS, in conjunction with Johnson State College, provides an on site Master of Arts degree program which can lead to the certification of Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA), a national certification in Behavior Analysis . Our program has been preapproved by the Behavior Analysis Certification Board and employees who complete the program will be eligible to sit for the BCBA examination.
