Description of Injury / Death or serious injury resulting from faulty electrical equipment or poor installation of electrical equipment.
Death or serious injury if used incorrectly.
Cuts bruises and abrasions, broken bones from trips, slips and falls, cuts from baler tape.
Crush injuries from machinery doors.
Back injuries from lifting rubbish/removing bales.
Potential for injury from vehicles using area surrounding balers.
Probability of Occurrence
(High, moderate, low) / Low (all risks) Slip hazard could be moderate in bad weather as machines are outside.
Measures to Control Occurrence / Any spillages are cleaned up immediately. Good housekeeping.
Only trained staff operate machinery.
Staff are to use the correct manual handling procedure.
All electrical equipment is used according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
Damage to plugs and leads is avoided and reported immediately if faulty. Equipment is inspected prior to use and is taken out of service if faulty.
Testing / inspection by competent staff is carried out regularly.
Any damages to machinery are reported promptly. Access is restricted if required until repaired
Staff always use PPE where required – gloves are provided to protect hands, a trolley is provided to aid moving the bales.
Potential for Injuries to More Than One Person / Low (all risks)
Plans for Elimination / Control / Generally considered low risk in their present form
Training Requirement / Information / Staff are trained in the safe use of the machines.
Head Stewards etc needing to dispose of waste are trained to leave waste by the machine and inform a trained member of staff to complete disposal.
Monitoring / Health Surveillance / Accidents are recorded by the D.S.O. and reported to University Safety Officer
Emergency Procedures / Staff are aware of how to contact Arts Centre First Aiders and/or Security
