Vehicles - Gear - Traffic - Checking-In and Out

Please share this information with your leaders and parents.

Vehicle Access:

Once campers arrive on site, roadways, laneways and walkways all become paths.

The difference is that youth run along and across paths not expecting vehicular traffic.

This freedom to run and to roam is fundamental to the camping experience.

Thus with this in mind, all vehicles are to be parked in the designated lots. There are two lots at the entrance to camp, one on each side of Hanna Road. Additional parking is available during spring and fall to the side of Barker Lodge in the lower part of the entrance road. This second area is not available from December to April when winter parking is in effect. Note there are a few reserved spots for members of the Opemikon Crew. Winter parking is available in the upper lots only. Personal vehicles are not permitted down the hill during winter operations (December to April). Parking on the side of road is not permitted, this is the emergency route and must be kept clear for emergency vehicles.

Come prepared to hike gear into your facility site. Seasonal aids are available to assist, carts with wheels for fall and spring, large sleds for winter use. These are stored in TeePee. Once you have unloaded please return to TeePee for use by next Group.

Assist your parents in locating their child’s cabin by ensuring they are aware of:

1)Expectation that their child and gear are to be hiked to and from the cabin/tenting site; 2)their Group name and section; 3) the name of your cabin/tenting site for the weekend. Have a leader arrive early to greet and direct your parents upon their arrival in the main parking lot. Contact leader is to check in with the Warden upon arrival. Warden and camp office are located in Drake Lodge.

Departing Camp:Ensure parents are aware of the expectation that they are to hike into the cabin/tenting area to pick up their child and gear. Vehicles are to be parked in designated lots .

Large Scale Events:Co-ordinators of large Area-wide or Group events are asked to contact the Camp Warden a minimum of two (2) weeks prior to the event date to discuss logistics. Our Warden is Theresa and she may be contacted at or by phone at 613-273-5291.
