Volunteer Management in Cultural Institutions – Practical issues and hints

In-Service Training for coordinators of museum volunteer programmes

What?

The volunteer coordinators and the volunteers in the Museum of Fine Arts are ready to share their experiences in-depths with you if you are or plan to be a volunteer coordinator in a cultural institution.

The Volunteer Program of the Museum of Fine Arts celebrates its 5th anniversary in 2011 and has been listed as best practice organization in the programme of many international conferences. The coordinator of the programme has provided many lectures on the volunteer management scheme used in Budapest and recently she has also been involved in training museum professionals in Hungary to prepare them for running a volunteer programme.

The Volunteer Docent Programme of the Museum of Fine Arts runs guided tours since the mid 90s and the programme is still expanding.

These coordinators and some participating volunteers would share with you the background of their programmes and boost sharing your own experiences within this training conducted in English.

Over the 5 days participants will spend together, they get familiarized with and share they own experiences on the selection process, interview techniques, induction and continuous training, volunteer appreciation and administration practices.

Course methods include interactive presentations, games, role plays and more to help you learn by experience. Materials to read and talk about as well as homeworks for later self-check will also be provided over the 5 days. Opportunity will also be given to gain your own experience on parts of the induction process and volunteer activities in order you get the deepest understanding possible.
