Description of community agency/organization: Animal Aid Foundation is a registered public foundation whose mission is to reduce the number of unwanted companion animals (cats, dogs, rabbits, ferrets) and to reduce euthanasia rates. The Foundation achieves its mission by providing funding for spay/neuter programs to local animal charities.

Position title: Event Volunteer

What you will do: You have the option of working on one of the following during your shift:

Option # 1) Workon a cash desk with an adult volunteer and bag customer purchases.

Option # 2) Work on the floor tidying the tables by making sure that books on the tables you are responsible for have the correct subject category on them

Option # 3) Help to promote the book sale by handing out bookmarks to customers outside the mall or help display a promotional banner to attract attention to the fundraiser

Skills required: Ability to follow instructions, commitment to working the shifts you sign up for.

Skills you will learn: Logistics of organizing a charity fundraiser, how to work with others together as a team, customer service.

Length of time required: Each student who signs up and works this fundraiser will earn 10 volunteer hours. The 10 hours is made of working one 4 ½ hour shift on either Thurs or Friday evening or Saturday during the day or Sunday morning AND by working Sunday afternoon from 3 pm to 8:30 pm.

Friday September 8th6 pm to 10:30 pm(4 ½ hours)

Saturday Sept 9th9:30 am to 2 pm (4 ½ hours)

OR 2:30 pm to 7:00 pm(4 ½ hours)

OR

Sunday Sept 10th10:30 am to 3 pm(4 ½ hours)

2. and ALSO WORKthe following 5 ½ hour shift:

Sunday September 10th3 pm to 8:30 pm(5 ½ hours)

Select students who volunteer and work the book sale fundraiser will be invited to volunteer at Animal Aid’s Christmas Gifts For Pets fundraisers in December 2017.

What is the registration deadline for volunteer positions?

The deadline for registration for this event is Monday September 4, 2017. However, all positions will be filled on a first come, first served basis.

PLEASE NOTE:

Students are expected to show up for and work both shifts that they sign up for. Please remember that Animal Aid is a 100% volunteer run charity and we are counting on your help.

Animal Aid does not provide individual letters for the volunteer hours you work so please remember to bring your student volunteer sheets with you to South Common Mall on Sunday Sept 10th so that we can sign them for you after the event is over.

Location:South Common Mall, 2150 Burnhamthorpe Road West, Mississauga (Erin Mills Parkway and Burnhamthorpe, just south of highway #403). The book sale takes place inside the mall between No Frills and Walmart. Report to the main cash desk on the Walmart side upon arrival for your shift.
