Job Title:Chief Executive (part time)

Reports to: Board of Trustees (line-managed by the Chair of Trustees)

Direct Reports:Chief Operating Officer

Background

Volunteer Centre Kensington & Chelsea (VCKC) is an organisation that believes in the power of volunteering and the immense rewards it can bring to individuals from all backgrounds, the organisations they support and the broader local community. VCKC has championed volunteering in the Royal Borough for over 45 years and is now seeking apart-time CEO to take the organisation through its next period of growth.

The CEO will be primarily responsible for promoting the value of volunteering locally, developing relationships and alliances to deliver effective and innovative services and projects, securing future funding and driving forward the organisation’s strategy. This 3-day per week role, which is supported by a full-time Chief Operating Officer, is an exciting opportunity for an experienced voluntary sector professional with excellent communication and networking skills, strategic development and implementation experience and a track record around fund development to really make a difference.

Main Purpose of Job

To provide leadership, fund development, networking and influencing skills to ensure that the charity is the principal volunteering resource for individuals and organisations in the Borough. To drive forward, with the support of the Chief Operating Officer, the achievement of VCKC’s mission with a focus on outcomes, sustainability, effective use of technology, collaborations and programme innovation.

Key Areas

1. Community and Public Relations

  • Advocate for the organisation and champion volunteering and the local voluntary sector
  • Further develop strong senior relationships with local stakeholders (individual beneficiaries, local authority, funders, community organisations and partners).
  • Establish strategic partnerships and alliances as appropriate.
  • Developing and leading on communications strategy including website.

2. Strategic Development

  • Work with the Board of Trustees, Chief Operating Officer and staff to develop and implement identified priorities to deliver effectiveness and growth for the organisation.
  • Foster internal and external commitment to the vision and mission and instil the values of the organisation in all its initiatives.
  • Embed measurement of social impact across all aspects of the organisation.

3. Finances and Fund Development

  • Maintain responsibility for overall financial health of the organisation.
  • Develop and execute on an income generation strategy to ensure sustainable services in the coming years.
  • Meet or exceed revenue targets to drive forward organisation strategies and future development.
  • Responsible for setting and implementing overall organisation budgetsupported byCOO and Financial Consultant.
  • Ensure effective financial management and that appropriate regulations and controls are in place in conjunction with the Treasurer and Financial Consultant.

4. Human Resources

  • Maintain responsibility for all human resources of the organisation according to authorised policies and procedures in compliance with legal requirements.
  • Ensure an organisation structure that is effective and an environment that attracts, retains and motivates good quality staff and volunteers.

5. Governance

  • Advise Board of Trustees to discharge their duties effectively, including developing agenda and preparing information and/or reports for Board meetings, making recommendations, maintaining records of meetings and decisions, undertaking strategic planning, assisting in Trustee recruitment, facilitating risk management
  • Ensure legal, statutory and regulatory compliance and appropriate accreditation

6. Supervision and Development of the Chief Operating Officer

  • Motivate and support the Chief Operating Officer who is responsible for day-to-day service delivery, team development and people management, financial management and office and ITmanagement to deliver on his objectives and continue to develop professionally.

The CEO may also undertake other duties appropriate to the post, as requested by the Board of Trustees, that are consistent with the above.

Conditions

VCKC is an evolving organisation and therefore changes to the post‐holder’s duties may be necessary from time to time. The job description is not intended to be inflexible or exhaustive, and may be varied from time to time after consultation/discussion with the post‐holder

3 days per week (or 21 hours per week). This will include some evening work (and may include some weekend work); salary £45,000 - £50,000 pro rata per annum dependent on experience; 6% Employers pension contribution if contract exceeds six months; annual leave entitlement 25 days per annum pro rata (or 15 days); any other terms and conditions laid out in the contract.

Person Specification

  1. Track record of successful stakeholder management and partnership building. Recent experience of networking relationships with key local stakeholders in an urban Borough is desirable.

  1. Experience in developing and implementing organisational strategy resulting in business growth and efficiencies
  1. Experience of leading an organisation or work team during a time of change

  1. Track record of successfully raising funds to develop a third sector organisation
  1. Experience of working collaboratively with a Board of Trustees to support good governance and realise strategic aims
  1. Experience of leadership in a range of not for profit roles
  1. Financial acumen and experience of successful budget management at a departmental or organisational level
  1. Sound understanding of e-working practices and experience of using technology as a tool for development
  1. Contract negotiation skills and high-level contract management
  1. Entrepreneurial and innovative in approach
