Agency: Commission on Culture and Tourism

Project: Funds approved to finance the purchase of the historic property abutting the PrudenceCrandallHouseMuseum in Canterbury, known as the John Carter House. Constructed about 1760, it is on the State and National Registers of Historical Places. The property is a 2,670 square foot two-story colonial dwelling on .55 acres of land along with a detached garage/barn, located at 5 South Canterbury Road, Canterbury, owned by David Ferguson.

Project: Funds approved to award a construction contract for a new technology building at NaugatuckValleyCommunity College in Waterbury (Project Number: BI-CTC-387). The project consists of a new 100,000 square foot technology building to replace the existing 35-year old technology facility and will also permit the elimination of antiquated modular buildings.

Agency: Department of Public Works

Project: Funds approved to finance renovations to the second floor, and the design for renovations to the third and fourth floors, at 18-20 Trinity Street in Hartford. The second floor renovations will accommodate the Office of State Ethics. The third and fourth floor designs are for the complete renovation of 18,500 square feet of office space for use by multiple agencies.

Project: Funds approved to finance the settlement of two claims arising from the project to develop the new CapitalCommunity College at the former G. Fox Building in Hartford (BI-CTC-377). One claim is for operating charges during construction for the common areas for the period January – August 2002, based on a 40% / 60% distribution. The state owns 40% of the property while 60% is owned by Hartford Downtown Revival LLC. The second claim is for design and construction costs incurred by Hartford Downtown Revival LLC for improvements to the college’s main entrance off the common area.

Project: Funds approved to finance the settlement of damages arising from a judgment condemning the long-term leasehold rights of Richardson Redo LLC to 9 parking spaces for use as an outdoor daycare center playground by CapitalCommunity College in Hartford (BI-CTC-377). The state had acquired the property from the City of Hartford, located on a parking deck adjacent to the former G. Fox Building, as part of the project for development of the new space for CapitalCommunity College. At the time, Richardson Redo LLC possessed long-term leasehold rights to the spaces contemplated for use by the daycare center. Subsequent negotiations to rent the spaces failed after which the state sought and secured a judgment condemning the leasehold rights.

DPW INVITATION TO SUBMIT PROPOSALS FOR SALE OF LAND

Need: In the Valley Region, Derby, Shelton, Ansonia, Seymour, Oxford or Beacon Falls, Windham, with access to major highway systems, an offer to sell the State a parcel of land with a minimum of 10 acres on which the State Department of Public Works would construct a new Fire Training School. The school will consist of several structures, classroom buildings, fire training props, and surface parking lots. A public water supply and municipal sanitary sewer must be within 500 feet of the proposed parcel. The site will have the ability to develop a static water source. The property should be zoned for commercial or industrial use. A setback and or a substantial buffer from residential zones is required.
