The Foretelling

A choral reading for 5 voices highlighting scriptures that foretell the coming of Christ. Passages taken from the ERV, NIV and Message. Actors could read from binders, facing the audience. (Scriptures found in Isaiah, Matthew, Micah and Numbers)
Voice 1The prophet Micah wrote it plainly:
Voice 2It’s you, Bethlehem, in Judah’s land,
Voice 3David’s country,
Voice 4Though you are small among the clans of Judah,
Voice 5-the smallest town in Judah.
Voice 1You are important.
Voice 2Yes, a ruler will come from you,
Voice 3-the “Ruler of Israel”
Voice 2A ruler who will shepherd-rule my people, my Israel.
Voice 3Rule for me.
Voice 4He’ll be no upstart, no pretender.
Voice 5His family tree is distinguished.
Voice 4Ancient,
Voice 5-from long, long ago.
Voice 1The Lord will let his people be defeated.
Voice 2Israel will be abandoned,
Voice 1-until the woman gives birth to her child, the promised king.
Voice 2And the scattered brothers come back home, to join the people of
Israel.
Voice 3A star will come from the family of Jacob.
Voice 4A new ruler will come from the Israelites.
Voice 5He will begin to rule in the power of the Lord.
Voice 2He will stand tall and shepherd his flock,
Voice 5-in the strength of the Lord,
Voice 2-centered in the majesty of God-Revealed.
Voice 5He will lead his people in the wonderful name of the Lord his God.
Voice 1And the people will have a good and safe home,
Voice 3-they will live securely.
Voice 1For the whole world will hold him in respect—
Voice 4-because then his greatness will be known.
Voice 5His greatnesswill reach to the ends of the earth.
All Peacemaker of the world!

Voice 2This will happen when the special child is born.
Voice 5The gift of a son—for us!
Voice 2-who will be responsible for leading the people.
Voice 5He’ll take over the running of the world.
Voice 2The government will be on his shoulders.
Voice 1His name will be “Wonderful Counselor,
Voice 2Mighty God,
Voice 3Father Who Lives Forever,
Voice 4Eternal,
Voice 5Prince of Wholeness,
Voice 1Prince of Peace,
Voice 2Wonderful Counselor,

Voice 5His ruling authority -
Voice 3-His power will continue to grow,
Voice 1-and there’ll be no limits to the wholeness he brings.
Voice 2There will be peace without end
Voice 4He will reign on David’s throne and over his kingdom,
Voice 2-that promised kingdom
Voice 4He will rule with goodness and justice
Voice 2establishing and upholding it
Voice 2With fair dealing and right living,
AllForever and ever.
Voice The zeal of God-of-the-Angel-Armies will do all this.
Voice 5The strong love that the Lord All-Powerful has for his people
will make this happen!
Voice 1Watch for this:
Voice A virgin will conceive and give birth to a son.
Voice 3She’ll name him Immanuel
Voice 4God-With-Us
All Jesus.
