Vitovalor 300-P: up to € 11,100 in subsidies for fuel cell heating device

The German Development Bank (KfW) supports the installation of a Vitovalor 300-P fuel cell heating device with a € 9,300 subsidy. This subsidy can be combined with the electricity subsidy from the German Combined Heat and Power Generation Act (KWKG). Homeowners can take a one-time payment for CHP electricity amounting to € 1,800. Together with the KfW subsidy, this comes out to € 11,100. Thus, the cost of investing in this electricity-generating heating system is about the same as purchasing a common heat pump system.

As an alternative to the one-time payment, there is also a subsidy of 8 cent for every kilowatt-hour fed into the public grid and 4 cent for each kilowatt-hour used by the owner. What is more, at the end of the year, the energy tax on the gas consumption of the fuel cell is refunded. The meters needed to prove the amounts of electricity, gas, and heat are already integrated in the device. Information on this and other subsidies are available on the Internet at

Now even more compact, yet with a higher output

Now there are even more ways to make use of a Vitovalor 300-P in single- and two-family homes. The total height of the peak load module with integrated gas condensing boiler, drinking water and heating water buffer cylinder, is a mere 1,800 millimeters. So it is now no problem to install it in rooms with a ceiling height of two meters.

Along with the fuel cell heating device with a 19 kW peak load boiler, which is still available, there is an additional gas condensing boiler with an output of 26 kW. This device can also be used in houses with a higher heat demand.

Save up to forty percent on energy costs

This fuel cell heating device very efficiently generates electricity and heat to supply single- and two-family homes. It produces up to 15 kWh of electricity in the course of a day. This will cover most of a household’s demand. Compared to buying electricity from the grid and using it to heat water in a boiler, this innovative system reduces energy costs by up to forty percent and cuts CO2 emissions by about half. That is why the Vitovalor 300-P ranks in the highest energy efficiency class according to the European Union directive on energy efficiency and boasts the A++ label.

Time-tested: more than 100,000 already installed

This fuel cell heating device contains a Panasonic PEM (polymer electrolyte membrane) fuel cell that runs on natural gas and is designed to last at least fifteen years. With more than 100,000 Panasonic devices installed in Japan, this fuel cell has already proved its reliability. Viessmann has integrated this technology into a compact unit for the European market, with a gas condensing peak load boiler, buffer and drinking water cylinder, and a system control.

Installed just like compact gas condensing boilers

The Vitovalor 300-P consists of two separately transportable units, the fuel cell module and the peak load module. Together they have a footprint of only 0.65 square meters. Both modules are completely preassembled, so that installing them is easy and takes little time and effort. Only the natural gas connection, the joint exhaust gas/air supply line, the heat flow and return, and the drinking water pipe need to be connected. This makes the fuel cell heating device as easy to install as a compact Vitodens gas condensing boiler. All that is left to provide is an electrical connection for the electricity being purchased or fed in.

Maintenance every two years

The usual two-year maintenance interval is fully adequate for the gas condensing peak load boiler. The same applies to the fuel cell. The maintenance work amounts to simply replacing the air and water filter. The integrated desulfurization of the natural gas for the fuel cell needs no maintenance at all.
