Chemical Oceanography and aquatic chemistry; mechanisms controlling the distribution of trace metals, nutrients, gases and radioactive isotopes in oceans, lakes and sediments. Specific recent interests include export production in the ocean determined using drifting sediment traps and thorium isotopes; the role of colloids in particle and metal cycling, metal tracers for redox environments, suboxic and anoxic conditions in the Black Sea and eastern tropical Pacific and the carbon cycle of the equatorial Pacific.Biological impacts of Ocean Acidification.
