LISTENING

SESSION TWO:

I. MORE PRACTICE WITH VISUALIZING WHAT YOU HEAR.

A. Talking about Job Interviews: First Listening: You will hear people talking about their experience at job interviews. As you listen, use the visualizing technique to understand the situations. For each situation, focus on:

WHERE: what was the scene? What objects do you see?

WHO: who were the main characters? What are they doing? How did they act?

WHAT: what happened, what didn’t happen?

HOW what was the atmosphere, the speaker’s mood

THE JOB INTERVIEW

  1. LISTENING STRATEGY: KNOWING WHAT TO EXPECT:

It is often easier to understand when you know what to expect.

Example:

If you go to the coffee shop and the waiter asks you how you want your coffee, you won’t be surprised, and will probably already have an answer ready.

However, if he asks you what you did last night, you might not understand the question simply because you weren’t expecting to hear it.

When people talk about themselves, they usually include certain kinds of information.

What kind of information would you give when asked the following question?

Tell me about yourself.
