VISITING RESEARCH FELLOWS

2018 GUIDELINES

Objective

Theobjectiveofthevisiting Research Fellows Schemeistoenhance research collaboration through supporting visits by collaboratingresearch exemplars to help build Bond’s research capacity, productivity and external research partnerships. Visiting Fellows are usually from an overseas university or research facility.

Type of support

Funding is available on a case-by-case basis to support reasonable travel, daily living and accommodation costs of visiting research fellows (for a 2-4 week period), capped at $10,000 per research fellow, per visit.

Eligibility, Restrictions and Requirements

  • Visiting Fellows to be nominated by a host Faculty using the nomination template - with a letter of commitment from the Visiting Fellow, indicating an interest and availability to visit Bond for at least two weeks before 14December 2018. The letter must stipulate the commitment to travel as per the Research Travel Procedures and without personal financial gain (such as honorariums).Visiting Fellows will usually be employed by an overseas university or research facility.
  • Only one visit will be supported for a minimum stay of 2 weeks.
  • Usually maximum of $10,000 allocated per visit.
  • Budgets must be fully and adequately costed with reasonable rates for all travel line items in accordance with the Research Travel Procedures.
  • Research Services can assist with daily rates and flight quotes. All travel must be booked through Research Services in accordance with the Research Travel Procedures.
  • Co-contributions from Faculties (if also teachingduring the visit to Bond) will be viewed favourably.
  • All applications must have Executive Dean support.
  • Visiting Fellows must have demonstrable research track record and international reputation, in a research area aligned to Bond’s research areas.
  • Once the application has been approved, the Visiting Fellow must provide a letter from their institution, supporting their visit to Bond, prior to travel being booked.
  • Nominations must demonstrate existing or potential rationale for the Research Fellow, including a program of activityfor the visiting Research Fellow
  • Visiting Research Fellows and their nominating Faculty are required to agree to the following contributions to Bond’s research activities including:
  • A visiting Research Fellows public lecture (organised by the nominating Faculty)
  • A research methodology lecture/workshop for relevant Bond HDR students Co-author a minimum of one research publication.
  • Nominee must submit a grant application for external research funding within 12 months of the visit, relating to the collaboration.
  • Visiting Fellows will be asked to sign a model release form for any images captured during their visit

Selection criteria

Nominations for visiting Research Fellows are always open, and applications will be assessed on submission. A capped budget allocation has been allocated for this initiative annually, subject to annual budget planning and review processes.

Selection criteria will include:

  • The case made by nominating Faculty regarding the visiting Research Fellow’s track record, status and current and future research collaborations with Bond staff,
  • The proposed program of activity for the visiting Research Fellow,
  • Strategic alignment of the with Bond’s areas of research strength.

Approvals

The Pro Vice-Chancellor (Research) will consider all complete applications.

Final Report

The nominating Faculty must submit a Final Report by 31 January 2019 in order to fully acquit the award. The report should outline the significance and outcomes of the Research Fellow’s visit to Bond University. Report templates are available online or by contacting Research Services.
