Visit to: Rome and Sorrento, Italy

We are arranging a visit to Rome and the Bay of Naples from 16th March 2018 to 20th March 2018.

This is an ideal opportunity for students of Classical Civilisation, Ancient History, History and Geography to deepen their knowledge of important historical events in Roman history and to experience the greatest archaeological sites Italy has to offer.

The trip will consist of visits to some of the key locations in Rome and the Bay of Naples. We will stay in Rome for two nights before travelling to Sorrento in the Bay of Naples for a further two nights. In Rome we will visit the main sites including the Colosseum, the Roman Forum, the Pantheon and the Ara Pacis Museum. We will then visit Mount Vesuvius, the preserved Roman towns of Pompeii and Herculaneum and visit the Naples Archaeological Museum where many of the most important finds from Pompeii are displayed.

We will stay in hotel accommodation near the centre of Rome and then in Sorrento and breakfast and dinner from the evening of 16th March to breakfast on 20th March will be included in the price. Students will need to buy their own lunches.

Although the visit is not essential, it will be of benefit to all students. They will however need to consider the demands of their other subjects before deciding to go on the visit, particularly if they are close to an important assessment.

The full cost of the visit is £680. This covers all entrance fees as well as breakfast, dinner and accommodation for four nights. We require a deposit of £150 to be paid by 25th September; the balance may then be paid by installments as follows:

£200 by Monday 23rd October 2017

£200 by Thursday 23th November 2017

£130 by Friday 15th December 2017

All payments should be made via Wise pay.

A consent form and information sheet should also be completed (these can be downloaded from Wise Pay) and returned to central services (room M106) along with a copy of your passport within 48 hours of making your payment.

Please note that places are limited and will firstly be allocated to Classical Civilisation and Ancient History students with any remaining places being selected randomly through a draw.

Students should note that our expectations of student behaviour apply to all educational visits run by the College. In the unlikely event that a student fails to meet these expectations or to obey instructions relating to minimising risk, parents/carers may be asked to be responsible for the student's early return home.

Parents/carers should note that the staff supervising are acting in loco parentis and should therefore expect the standard of care given by a reasonably prudent parent or carer. A risk assessment has taken place for the activities involved in the visit and student must obey all instructions given by staff. Occasionally there may be some unstructured time on the visit appropriate to the age group. Wherever possible, students should remain in groups; they will have clear contact details for the supervising members of staff at all times.

The College will not be responsible for any personal loss or injury unless proved to be negligent. There will be a meeting for parents and carers closer to the visit taking place in the Spring term. Please contact me if you have any questions
