MICROCHIP TECHNOLOGY PROMOTES FLESSAS TO VICE PRESIDENT

CHANDLER, Ariz., April 14, 1997 [NASDAQ: MCHP] -- Microchip Technology Inc.,

a leading supplier of 8-bit microcontrollers, serial EEPROMs and specialty nonvolatile memory products for embedded control applications, today announced the appointment of Lanny Flessas to vice president, worldwide distribution sales.

In his role as vice president, Flessas will continue to drive the creation of a worldwide distribution network which ensures maximized distribution sales in key markets. Flessas is charged with ensuring that Microchip is aligned with the proper distributors and networks to maximize product revenue and for successfully implementing policies, procedures, and programs to enhance operations and business relationships. He is also responsible for Microchip’s Corporate Applications and Sales Operations groups.

“Distribution is a vital element of Microchip’s success -- and under Lanny’s leadership our distribution business increased 55% in 1996,” noted Bob Lanford, vice president worldwide sales for Microchip. “Our leadership position in OTP (one-time-programmable) devices aligns nicely with business strategies of the distribution channel, making strong supplier-distributor relationships a win-win proposition for Microchip and our distribution partners.”

Since joining Microchip eight years ago, Flessas has implemented innovative distribution channel programs unique to the semiconductor industry. One such program, Microchip’s

TRAC-IT program, has greatly enhanced customer service and satisfaction by closely monitoring design activity, reducing customer’s design cycle time, and optimizing inventory forecasting.
