Visbion to supply University Hospitals Coventry & Warwick NHS Trustwith its innovative Vendor Neutral Archive

Chertsey, UK 18 July 2013, Visbion, a leader in standards-based image management solutions, hassigned an agreement with University Hospital Coventry & Warwick to supply Visbion’s Vendor Neutral Archive (VNA) solution through the NHS Supply Chain Framework.

The Visbion VNA is a standards-based electronic repository for the storage and retrieval of patient images and other documents. It manages inbound and outbound interfaces for integration with other Trust information systems, including DICOM, HL7 and XDS. It therefore enables sharing of images and other data objects with other health organisations.

University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust (UHCW) is one of the UK's largest teaching Trusts in the UK with 1200 beds on two main sites, University Hospital in Coventry, and the Hospital of St Cross in Rugby. Implementing a VNA is a key milestone in the Trust’s goal to become paperless by 2016. It also provides the Trust with security management that can authenticate, authorise and audit all access to the service by end-users and systems.

Visbion is supplying UHCW with its VNA through the NHS Supply Chain’s PACS & RIS Framework Agreement. The Framework provides Trusts with the opportunity to source from an approved list of suppliers, facilitating the procurement process for Trusts and reducing costs.

The Visbion VNA is being installed in UHCW during June and July and is expected to deliver significant benefits to the Trust. The anticipated benefits include, enhanced business continuity, reduced storage and migration costs and improved image sharing.

Stefan Claesen, Visbion’s CEO commented “We are excited to announce another enterprise level VNA installation in the NHS. VNA is the future for next generation archiving in hospitals. It’s simple functionality with built in streaming and support for all image types is a winning solution.”

Charles Yeomanson, ICT Technical Director for UHCW said “We are very pleased with the procurement of Visbion’s Vendor Neutral Archive at University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust. The VNA ticked all of the boxes for us, offering an affordable repository for both radiology and medical record images with integration to the Trust’s EPR and extra functionality such as multi ‘ologydiagnostic web viewer and DR options. The implementation has gone to schedule over just a few weeks and the staff at Visbion have been most helpful in ensuring that the solution fits with the Trust’s requirements. We are looking forward to working with the system and realising the benefits of integrated image/document management. The VNA will make a real difference to the way the Trust manages its patient records in the years to come.”
