Key Projects & Achievements

  • Successfully bagged the contract for Project Management consultancy for Bangalore Metro, only the second metro to be conceptualized and commissioned in India. 1st phase of the metro has been completed and work on other phases is underway
  • RITES was associated with the detailed study of alignment of BRTS (Bus Rapid Transit System) & PMC of the first phase of the corridor.
  • Successfully steered the PMC for Delhi-Gurgaon Expressway (NH-8) completed in 2008
  • Undertook a study for the planning commission for 2025 to recommend the optimum modal mix for movement of freight and passenger within the country. The purview of the study included rail, road, air and inland waterways. The implementation plan for the report is under discussion by a Planning commission committee headed by Shri Rakesh Mohan
  • Bagged the concession agreement to re-build & operate freight rail corridors totaling 850 km in Mozambique for 25 years, along with its partner IRCON, in the face of stiff international competition.Only in 2nd year of operation the SPV made operating profit. The rebuilding of 575 km line completed within the time frame of 4 years & 1 month as per contract.
  • Bagged the concession agreement for the complete Tanzanian Railway network (2700kms) for a period of 25 years in March 2006 from Government of Tanzania in face of stiff competition from South African Railway companies. Led the negotiating team to finalise the share holder's agreement with Government of Tanzania as 49% partner and thereafter achieved financial closure for the project from IFC.
  • Successfully led the organization to deliver ‘Net Profit before tax’ of Rs.150 Cr (‘09), up from Rs.72 Cr(‘04) & increased business turnover of Rs.672 Cr in 2008-09 ( vs. Rs.282 Cr in 2003-04)
  • Led the management team to deliver substantial increase in Business Development as “Business in hand” on 31.03.2004 of Rs.383 Crores increased to Rs.1097 Crores in 2009
  • The Company won the National Award for excellence in consultancy services in October ‘04 for outstanding performance conferred by the then President of India Hon'ble A.P.J. Abdul Kalam
  • The Company won SCOPE Excellency Award in March’07 for best all-round performance amongst all PSUs of Government of India, conferred by the Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh
  • Conferred the BEST EXECUTIVE IN ASIA (Sub-Continent, Australia and New Zealand) award by Stevie International Business Awards 2008, USA in a function held at Dublin, Ireland in September 2008 from over 50 applicants in this category. The first PSU head to receive this award in recent past

Job Assignment

  • Lead a team of highly skilled professionals managing the operations of the divisional rail network aimed at providing transportation services for passenger & freight movement, with due focus on growing revenues, improving process and systems efficiency & levels of customer service
  • Led the team at Jaipur Division from August 2001- April 2002
  • Subsequently took over as DRM , Delhi Division(April 2002 - January 2004) - The most coveted executive post in the Indian Railways given the complexities associated with size of operations and the sensitivities attached with location imperatives

Key Achievements

  • Led the Delhi team to deliver freight revenue growth of 20% and passenger traffic growth of 9% as DRM/Delhi
  • Successfully persuaded Delhi Government to exchange land plots needed for expansion of New Delhi station which was held up for almost 10 years. On completion, subsequently led to 30% augmentation of train handling facilities.
  • Assessing the growth of passenger traffic will be the maximum from Eastern parts, successfully convinced Ministry for sanctioning 3rd terminal at Anand Vihar over other locations in Delhi at an estimated cost of Rs.80 Crores.
  • Realised plight of passengers and successfully persuaded Ministry to sanction pending decision on ambitious "World Class New Delhi Railway Station" project for a proper new 2nd passenger entry to New Delhi Railway Station "Ajmeri Gate" at an estimated cost of Rs.45 Cr.

Executive Director –Public Grievances, Land Management & Track Modernisation, Ministry of Railways

Job Assignment

  • ‘Management of Public Grievances' in the office of the Minister for Railways
  • Policy for modernization of Railway track construction
  • Management of Real Estate of Indian Railways.

Key Achievements

  • The responsiveness to dealing with public grievances was greatly appreciated by the Members of Parliament
  • Mechanized track relaying as well as mechanized packing and clearing of ballast beds saw an increase of around 25% in a span of 2 years
  • First successful attempt on commercial development of Railway stations at Andheri and Bandra which was approved by the Government of India (Cabinet)

OTHER ACCOMPLISHMENTS

  • Joint Director, Research, Design & Standards Organization of Indian Railways (1982 -1989): While at RDSO, designed and developed the well known Rail Fastening ERC Mark-III lying rails to sleepers, a de facto standard on Indian Railways

  • Chairman, Board of Directors of Companhia Dos Caminhos De Ferro Da Beira(CCFB)incorporated in Mozambique, ajoint venture of RITES,IRCON and CFM (the railway company of Govt. of Mozambique) from July, 2004 – October, 2007.
  • Member of the Indian Delegation invited by the US Trade Development Agency in connection with the visit of the Hon’ble Prime Minister, Shri Atal Behari Vajpayee to the United States in September, 2000
  • National Project Director for a United Nations Project ‘Rail Infrastructure Up-gradation for Increasing Throughput on Indian Railways’- 1996 - 99
  • Participated in an Indo-German Technical Co-operation Program and underwent one year training in Germany in 1987-1988 in Track Technology
