Dear Parent (s)/Guardian,

View Park Prep High School prides itself on the academic achievement of its young students. In order to better meet student needs, View Park Prep High School offers counseling services at the school to help students resolve obstacles that may prevent academic progress. As the school counselor, I work therapeutically with students in need of emotional support as identified by teachers, the Director, school staff, parents, the SST team, the school counselor, and those students who voluntary seek out assistance.

The therapeutic work may be with students in weekly individual counseling session or in weekly group sessions with fellow students. These weekly sessions usually take about 30 minutes and are never scheduled during the student’s core instructional time. Goals of counseling may include, but are not limited to the following:

1.  To help students feel better about themselves and enhance self esteem.

2.  To help students talk over concerns and problems.

3.  To assist students with problem solving and decision making.

4.  To develop emotional expression.

5.  To help with anger management and conflict resolution.

6.  To assist students in developing coping skills during difficult times (i.e. divorce, death, conflicting peer relationships, etc…)

As always, a parent’s/guardian’s permission is needed prior to involving the student in any continual counseling sessions. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me as parents/guardians are the first and foremost experts on their children. I am happy to meet in person or over the telephone to discuss possible concerns.
