Natasha Mitchell: ‘This is a learning hub, a centre of excellence, a place where kids can play with technology

Gill Callister DET Secretary: This is a very exciting time in education, there is a lot happening, I think this is one of the flagship projects.

Natasha Mitchell: It’s really great to be here today at the inaugural Tech Schools Summit. What will they look and feel like, that’s what today is really about and getting a sense of how Tech Schools will operate and the sorts of opportunities they might offer kids in their local communities.

Deputy Premier and Minister for Education James Merlino: ‘The jobs of the future will come from ideas and knowledge. Our kids will need more than ever to be well rounded and capable at critical and creative thinking’

Bryce Prosser, Victorian Chamber of Commerce and Industry: ‘They would actually realise that it is happening on the ground now, it’s not happening in Asia or the US, it doesn’t have to be Silicon Valley, it could actually be happening down the road from where they live. And that’s exciting for students’

Kate Kent Evans KIOSC Director: ‘I’m the Director of KIOSC, what we are is a partnership of schools working with Swinburne University. And it’s marvellous to see all these schools here preparing to embark on the same sort of journey’

Darren Squires, Eltham High School Vice Principal: ‘We’ve got one of the Tech Schools in Greensborough, which is really close to Eltham High. This is a really good initiative I went to the old style Tech School, when I was at school. I think it will be really interesting to see how the programs at the local schools can interact with the Tech Schools, I think that is one of the crucial things we need to get right, the program development’

It’s been an amazing experience working on the peak planning committee for the Casey Tech School. To think that all of us, have the same idea and vision for education is absolutely outstanding for the future of education’

Feyla Amja: We were invited here as part of the student panel, it was me and other students from across different schools. It was a really great opportunity and I reckon it when pretty well. And it is just amazing to see the opinions that people have’
