The Parliament of Victoriaenacts:

Victims of Crime Assistance Amendment Act 2007
No. 9 of 2007
1Purpose
The purpose of this Act is to amend the Victims of Crime Assistance Act 1996 to increase the amountsof special financial assistance that may be awarded to a primary victim of an act of violence for significant adverse effects experienced or suffered by the victim as a direct result of that act.
2Commencement
s. 2
This Act comes into operation on 1 July 2007.

For the Table in section 8A(5) of the Victims of Crime Assistance Act 1996 substitute—
"

C / $650 or the higher prescribed amount applicable in prescribed circumstances / $1300 or the higher prescribed amount applicable in prescribed circumstances
D / $130 or the higher prescribed amount applicable in prescribed circumstances / $650 or the higher prescribed amount applicable in prescribed circumstances

4New section 79 inserted
s. 4
After section 78 of the Victims of Crime Assistance Act 1996 insert—
"79 Transitional provision (2007 Amending Act)
(1)In this section commencement day means 1July 2007.
(2) The amendment of this Act made by section3 of the Victims of Crime Assistance Amendment Act 2007 applies onlywith respect to acts of violence occurring on or after the commencement day and awards made under section 8A in respect of such acts of violence.
(3) For the purposes of this section, if an act of violence occurs between two dates, one before and one on or after the commencement day, the act of violence occurs on or after the commencement day.".
5Repeal of Act
This Act is repealed on 1 July 2008.
