Volunteer Role title: Retail Supervisor

Shaw Trust shops sell a wide range of predominantly donated items. They also sell a small range of new goods and some products produced through the charity’s social enterprises.

Purpose of role:

As a volunteer retail supervisor you will support the day-to-day running of a Shaw Trust charity shop.

You will use your skills to support the shop management team and help Shaw Trust deliver a successful business that raises much needed funds for the charity and offers work experience opportunities to disabled people in the local community. You’ll be encouraged to lead on projects and you may also be asked to provide cover when the manager is absent from the shop.

Main activities/tasks:

Supporting the shop manager to oversee the day-to-day activities involved within the retail operation and improving shop performance.

Supervising and mentoring retail assistant volunteers and retail customer service assistant volunteers on site as required.

Ensuring a high standard of customer service.

Signing up customers to Shaw Trust’s loyalty card (part of our Gift Aid scheme).

Helping to organise and manage stocktaking.

Cash handling as required.

Taking responsibility for locking up the shop as required.

Deputising in the absence of the shop manager.

Other information:

-This role will be based in the charity shop at 131 Walworth Road

-An informal interview and 2 character references are required for the role. The references can be from anyone that isn’t a family member and who has known you for more than a year. I.e. friends, neighbours or ex-colleagues

-Reimbursement for out-of-pocket travel expenses offered

-Induction training/trial period offered when volunteers start

-Access to training opportunities including national recognised qualifications e.g. NVQ level 2 in retail, customer service or team leading

-Regular supervisions with shop manager to discuss role and your development

-Flexible volunteering shifts on different days & times available

-Minimum time commitment required, 6 months

-Insurance cover provided

-We can also verify volunteer hours for young people wanting to complete their Duke Of Edinburgh Award with Shaw Trust

Relevant skills & experience applicants need:

Retail and/or charity knowledge.

Supervisory skills or management experience.

A strong commitment to helping vulnerable people and supporting our cause.

Willingness to share your skills and experience with fellow volunteers as required.

Excellent communication, interpersonal and customer service skills.

Responsible & trustworthy.

Good organisational skills.

Ability to work practically and to contribute to the general aims of Shaw Trust.
