More about John Mollison

John Mollison, in his words, “interviews old guys and draws their airplanes.” But John’s work goes much deeper than what he says. John uses the process of capturing an accurate rendering of a particular combat aircraft to learn more about the human side of history. John interviews the pilots and aircrew to then help the rest of us discover more about the human experience: What makes people go to war? What makes people cope with stress? How people define success? And most importantly, what can generations pass onto future generations so they can be more successful?

As a native of North Dakota and a resident of South Dakota, John is proud of his agricultural “upper Midwest roots.” To him, his Dakota heritage instilled the values of hard-work, independence and trust. Though he discovered professional success as a consultant to some of America’s highest performing restaurants, he is most proud of his success that has come from sharing the stories and drawing the aircraft of his boyhood heroes – combat aviators from WWII, Korea and the Viet Nam war.

Arizona Commemorative Air Force Museum

Based in Mesa, Arizona, the group was founded in 1977 as the 10th chapter of the CAF. It is comprised of 500 members, seven flyable warbirds that offer Living History “thrill of a lifetime” rides, and over 20 historic war aircraft on display. The fully-restored and rare B-17G and B-25J Bombers are the two main warbirds that conduct the Flying Legends of Victory Summer Air Show tour and visit approximately 40 cities throughout the United States and Canada. The military aviation museum has 55,000 square feet of historical airplanes, relics, and educational exhibits, in addition to a working mechanics hangar. A Trip-Advisor Winner of Excellence, it’s one of the top-rated Edu-Venture attractions in Phoenix and regularly conducts tours for schools, businesses, and youth groups.

About the Commemorative Air Force:

The Commemorative Air Force (CAF) honors the men and women who built, maintained, and flew in airplanes during wartime. The organization believes that is best accomplished by maintaining these warbirds in flying condition and taking them to people to experience the sights and sounds of these treasured beauties in flight.

Collecting, restoring and flying vintage historical aircraft for more than half a century, the Commemorative Air Force ranks as one of the largest private air forces in the world. The CAF is dedicated to Honoring American Military Aviation through flight, exhibition and remembrance. A non-profit educational association, the CAF has more than 13,000 members and a fleet of 165 airplanes distributed throughout the country to 76 CAF units for care and operation. There are also four international affiliates in France, Switzerland, New Zealand, and Australia. For more information, visit
