1 GENERAL
1.1 SECTION INCLUDES

1.4 SUBMITTALS
1.4.1 Submit under provisions of Section 01 30 00 - Administrative Requirements.
1.4.2 Product Data: Manufacturer's data sheets on each product to be used, including:
1.4.2.1 Preparation instructions and recommendations.
1.4.2.2 Storage and handling requirements and recommendations.
1.4.2.3 Installation methods.
1.4.3 Shop Drawings: Drawings shall show dimensional and wiring requirements.
1.4.4 Verification Samples: For each finish product specified, two samples (2 inches by 3 inches) representing actual product, color, and patterns.
1.5 QUALITY ASSURANCE
1.5.1 Manufacturer shall have not less than twenty years of experience in the design and manufacture of vertical wheelchair lifts.
1.5.1.1 Manufacturer shall be ISO 9001.
1.5.2 Installer Qualifications: Minimum 2 year experience installing similar products.
1.6 PRE-INSTALLATION MEETINGS
1.6.1 Convene minimum two weeks prior to starting work of this section.
1.7 DELIVERY, STORAGE, AND HANDLING
1.7.1 Deliver and store products in manufacturer's unopened packaging bearing the brand name and manufacturer's identification until ready for installation.
1.7.2 Handle materials to avoid damage.
1.8 PROJECT CONDITIONS
1.8.1 Maintain environmental conditions (temperature, humidity, and ventilation) within limits recommended by manufacturer for optimum results. Do not install products under environmental conditions outside manufacturer's recommended limits.
1.9 SEQUENCING
1.9.1 Ensure that products of this section are supplied to affected trades in time to prevent interruption of construction progress.
1.10 WARRANTY
** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** Extended warranty plans are available.
1.10.1 Manufacturer shall provide a warranty for a period of ten years on the drive train, four years on all other components, and 90 days on labor, starting from the date of installation.
2 PRODUCTS
2.1 MANUFACTURERS

2.1.2 Substitutions: Not permitted.

2.2 VERTICAL PERMANENTLY-INSTALLED WHEELCHAIR LIFTS
2.2.1 System Description: The product described herein is an enclosed, self-contained vertical platform wheelchair lift intended for use by individuals with disabilities. The product shall provide for independent use by individuals with disabilities and include all applicable operating and safety devices for compliance with ADA requirements. The product shall have a low-profile platform floor to eliminate the need for a pit or access ramp at the lower landing, and to facilitate entry into the lift platform.

2.2.2 Lift Product: Clarity 16E: The product shall consist of a machine cabinet, transparent runway enclosure, and lifting platform. The machine cabinet shall install against the uppermost landing serviced by the lift, providing clear view lines through the transparent runway enclosure on three sides.
2.2.3 Lift Product: Clarity 16S: The product shall consist of a machine cabinet and lifting platform for installation in a shaft inside a building. The machine cabinet shall install against the uppermost landing serviced by the lift, minimizing the required clear width.
2.2.4 Physical Characteristics:
2.2.4.1 Lifting capacity: 750 pounds (340 kg).
2.2.4.2 Vertical Speed: 17 feet per minute (5 meters per minute).
2.2.4.3 Vertical Travel: 34 inches (865 mm) to 168 inches (4265 mm), infinitely adjustable.
2.2.5 Dimensions:
2.2.5.1 Platform Size: 36 inches x 56 inches (914 mm x 1422 mm).

2.2.7.1 All metal components shall be thoroughly cleaned to remove any foreign substance.
2.2.7.2 Accent Rails: Brushed stainless steel.
2.2.7.3 Exposed metal surfaces, except grab bar and accent rails, shall be finished with an oven-baked powder coating.
2.2.7.4 Standard color is silver metallic; contact Ascension for custom color selection and pricing.
2.2.8 Drive Configuration
2.2.8.1 Drive shall be 2:1 chain hydraulic.
2.2.8.2 Platform shall be supported by two hydraulic jacks with two suspension chains each.
2.2.8.3 Suspension chain shall be No. 50 roller chain, 6100 pound (2773 kg) minimum breaking strength.
2.2.8.4 Hydraulic power unit shall be mounted on vibration-isolating supports designed to minimize vibration transmission and reduce frame-borne noise.
2.2.9 Electrical Requirements:

2.2.9.1 Electrical contractor shall provide a 120VAC, 60 hertz, single phase, 10 amp service line.
2.2.9.2 Full time battery power supplied by 24 VDC SLA battery bank.
2.2.9.3 Motor: 3 hp (2.1 kW), 24 VDC.
2.2.9.4 Control Circuits: 24 VDC.
2.2.9.5 Electrical components shall be UL listed and CSA registered.
2.2.9.6 Electrical system shall be certified to ASME A17.5 by an independent testing laboratory.
2.2.10 Safety Devices: The lift shall include the following additional safety features for protection of the passenger and general public.
2.2.10.1 Grounded electrical system.
2.2.10.2 24 VDC operating controls.
2.2.10.3 Constant pressure operating switches.
2.2.10.4 Emergency stop button at passenger control station.
2.2.10.5 Electro-mechanical door and gate interlocks.
2.2.10.6 Upper and lower limit switches.
2.2.10.7 Unobstructed view through transparent panels on three sides of the enclosure.
2.2.10.8 Grab bar extending full length of inside wall.
2.2.10.9 Integral emergency lighting with field-selectable modes: Fade, Always-On, and Emergency Only.
2.2.10.10 Automatic standby power for at least 5 lift cycles (with lift carrying full load), in the event of a power outage.
2.2.10.11 Slip-resistant platform floor.
2.2.10.12 Structural safety factors as specified in ASME A18.1.
2.2.10.13 Self-closing platform gates.
2.2.10.14 Alarm and lighted alarm switch on platform.
2.2.10.15 Slack-chain switches to automatically stop the platform if any suspension chain slackens.
2.2.10.16 Low-profile platform floor.
2.2.10.17 No installation pit or access ramp at the lower landing.
2.2.10.18 ADA-compliant hands-free phone with auto dialer for two way communication from platform.
2.2.11 Operating Characteristics:
2.2.11.1 Lift shall include three constant pressure operating switches, two for remote mounting outside of the platform and one located inside the platform.
2.2.11.2 The passenger control station shall be provided with a separate "PUSH TO STOP" emergency button. The emergency stop button shall prevent any operation of the lift when actuated.
3 EXECUTION
3.1 EXAMINATION
3.1.1 Verify suitability of substrate preparation in accordance with approved manufacturer's drawings.
3.1.2 Verify correct space requirements in accordance with approved manufacturer's drawings. Verify electrical service is of correct type and at correct location.
3.1.3 Do not begin installation until substrates have been properly prepared. If substrate preparation is the responsibility of another installer, notify Architect of unsatisfactory preparation before proceeding.
3.2 PREPARATION
3.2.1 Clean surfaces thoroughly prior to installation.
3.2.2 Prepare surfaces using the methods recommended by the manufacturer for achieving the best result for the substrate under the project conditions.
3.3 INSTALLATION
3.3.1 Install lift in accordance with approved submittals, manufacturer's instructions, and ASME A18.1 requirements.
3.3.2 Lift base shall independently support the weight of the entire unit, and shall be anchored to the pad at all four corners underneath the lift car. No part of the lift base frame shall require anchoring to an adjacent wall for structural support.
3.4 FIELD QUALITY CONTROL
3.4.1 Perform acceptance tests as required by code and the authority having jurisdiction. Place rated load on platform and operate for several cycles to verify correct installation and operation. No mechanical failures shall occur and no wear that would affect the reliability of the lift shall be detected.
3.5 PROTECTION
3.5.1 Protect installed products until completion of project.
3.5.2 Touch-up, repair or replace damaged products before Substantial Completion.
