Collaborating with Academic Partners

Professors Caroline Gatrell and Gary Powell will convene this seminar on managing research collaborations based on their personal perspectives and experiences. It will include discussion of the challenges of managing papers, conferences, and ongoing research projects when working with research partners.

This session is open to PhD students and early career faculty.

Caroline Gatrell PhD is Professor of Organisation Studies at University of Liverpool Management School. Caroline’s research centres on work, family and health. From a socio-cultural perspective, she examines how working parents (both fathers and mothers) manage boundaries between paid work and their everyday lives. Due to its social and economic relevance, my interdisciplinary research has significant impact within international media and attracts public policy partners. She has is published in leading journals including: Human Relations; British Journal of Management; Gender, Work and Organization; Social Science and Medicine; International Journal of Human Resource Management; Sociological Review and International Journal of Management Reviews.

She is Co-Editor in Chief, International Journal of Management Reviews and Chair of the Northern Advanced Research Training Initiative (NARTI).

Gary N. Powell, Ph.D., is Professor of Management at the University of Connecticut in Storrs, CT, and Distinguished Scholar at Lancaster University Management School in Lancaster, UK. He is author of Making Work and Family Work: From Hard Choices to Smart Choices, Women and Men in Management (4th ed.), and Managing a Diverse Workforce: Learning Activities (3rd ed.), and the editor of Handbook of Gender and Work. He is an internationally recognized scholar and educator on gender, diversity, and work-family issues in the workplace.

Gary has published over 110 articles in journals such as Academy of Management Journal, Academy of Management Review, Journal of Applied Psychology, Journal of Management, Journal of Business Venturing, Personnel Psychology, Organizational Behavior and Human Decision Processes, Journal of Vocational Behavior, Journal of Organizational Behavior, Journal of Occupational and Organizational Psychology, Entrepreneurship Theory and Practice, and Human Relations; contributed over 25 chapters to edited volumes; and presented over 150 papers at professional conferences
