VENTURE EVALUATION
In preparation for the final board meeting and for liquidating the company, it is necessary for each of you to sit back and to evaluate the success of Cust-A-Mug. Each of you will receive a mark for your comments provided in this booklet which is due by the end of the day on Thursday. Results will be given to your VPs on Friday, so it is necessary that you have this completed. Failure to hand it in to me by the end of Thursday will result in a 50% mark penalty. I will not accept it after Friday.
Your comments will be passed on anonymously to the president and to each of the vice-presidents who will then present the information in a report format. As a group, they will prepare a Shareholders’ Report for the final meeting. In some instances, it might be helpful to know who you are in light of your comments….However, I will not disclose your name unless it is absolutely necessary.
Complete the information on these sheets to the best of your ability; remember that the completeness of your comments will be evaluated and form part of your overall mark for the venture.
Name ______
How was technology used in the venture? Consider how YOU used technology first, and then expand on how others/other departments used it. You must touch on every department as well as the president’s usage! (5 marks)
Why was Cust-A-Mug a successful venture? Give at least 5 specific reasons/examples why the gifts sold as well as they did, and explain each reason fully. (15 marks)
What marketing strategies outlined in the business plan proved to be successful and why? Explain at least three fully. Be sure to give examples and the results that go with them.
(9 marks)
What problems, challenges or frustrations did the company as a whole face? How were these problems minimized or overcome? Fully discuss at least three; merely mentioning is not enough information; what is really important is how the company/individuals handled them. (12 marks)
For this question, assume that you are part of a new JA company next year. The product sold this year or in the previous years CANNOT be duplicated…The product could be SIMILAR but not identical! If you were to operate a SIMILAR business again:
· What recommendations would you make for improvement and why? Fully explain at least five. (15 marks)
What would you keep the same? Fully explain at least 5 points. (15 marks)
What did you personally do to ensure the success of Cust-A-Mug? Be specific about your role and how you contributed….What did you do??? Did you do anything that, in your opinion, goes above and beyond? Could you have helped out more? Did you fulfill your responsibilities to the best of your ability? A simple ‘yes’ or ‘no’ answer is not sufficient! How did your actions benefit or hurt the company is the ultimate question! (10 marks)
Refer to the norms established by the business early on… Comment on each one….Give specific examples of how it was or was not maintained during the operation of the business. Your comments may include the names of team members who did not—in your opinion—carry out the norm. You may also choose to highlight those members (including yourself) who carried out the norm. I need a sense of the ‘whole’ business, so do not focus only on one or two people….include comments about the rest as well. (3 marks each)
