FIRST AID COMP 2011

The first aid competition will be held at Admiral Martin Barracks on the 2nd April 2011 commencing at 0900 until 1600.

Cost for the Competition will be $15.00 per person. This will cover the cost of the Trophies/medals and lunch for the cadets. Hamburgers/hot dogs/pop/chips will be available for parents who wish to attend the competition for a small cost.

Each Corps will have to supply a casualty for each first aid team entered. You will not be charged for the casualties to attend the event.

Each Corps will be allowed to register up to two teams consisting of 4 cadets and one team captain (five cadets total). To register your team, send LCdr (NL) Gelinas an e-mail at . Teams can be registered at anytime but must be registered no later than 27 Feb 2011 in order to arrange for required first aid items and medals.

Cadets will be accessed against information in the St. John’s Ambulance First Aid Manual. A separate e-mail will be sent out by 1 Feb 10 to the Corps with a list of chapters in the book that the cadets will be assessed on.

NOTE

Cadets who partake in the first aid competition will in no way be considered qualified to administer first aid outside the competition unless they have been certified by St. John’s ambulance or the Canadian Red Cross.

The competition will consist of scenario type evaluations and a casualty evacuation course which the team must negotiate carrying a stretcher.

Team captains will be required to write a multiple choice exam. This exam will only be used if teams tie during the scenario phase.

-First Aid Team (Second)

-First Aid Team (Third)

-Top Team Captain

-Top Stretcher Team

A demonstration will be conducted of a full scenario prior to the accessed runs to show cadets what the evaluators will be marking on.

IMPORTANT

The point of the competition is for the cadets to have fun and develop teamwork. If there are suggestions on how to make the competition better, please put them in writing/e-mail and submit them to LCdr(NL) Smith after the competition.
