ValleyviewPTO Meeting Minutes

October 3, 2017

Attended by: Dayle Allen, Tina Stanley, Michele Wilson, Cassandra Pearson, Walt Baskin, Erika Heller, Jenn Sorensen, Anne Gregory, Shannah Kane, Sofia Kurban

1. Yearbook - Jenn Sorensen will coordinate again this year, with Cindy Lehr as her apprentice. The cost of the yearbooks has gone up ($16.83/yearbook). We may look at raising the cost of the yearbooks as we progress through the year, depending on fundraising efforts. Jenn Sorensen requested to be paid for her time for the 2017-2018 school year. She worked 100+hours last year. She will give the PTO a more specific capped amount. A $100 deposit will be made to Entourage to begin work on the yearbook using their new software (i-Pad compatible). Cindy Lehr will create an email account dedicated for yearbook pictures, which can be saved in folders for easy access. Jolene Thompson is currently taking pictures for the yearbook.

2. Dance Program - Shannah Kane is willing to teach P.E. classes on Fridays. Depending on when we begin, this is what her schedule will allow as she has another commitment with SUNY Oneonta Monday through Thursday. She plans to teach 6 45 minute classes, seeing each class bi-weekly. She will work with each class 2 times and help them prepare a simple routine, possibly for a Valleyview Rocks assembly. Shannah is requesting $150/day. She will write up a proposal and turn it in to the PTO so we may apply for Arts in Education funding.

3. Volunteers - A RIF coordinator is needed. Dayle Allen and Tina Stanley will co-coordinate the RIF event for the fall. Dayle will contact Kiersten Jennings to see if she will bring the "Reading Team" down again. We plan to resend the volunteer form with descriptions of the volunteer opportunities. A supplemental flier will be sent home with fifth graders to determine float/parade interest. Tina Stanley is checking into a possible trailer for a float. Cindy Lehr recommended a parade banner for students to carry, perhaps with glow sticks and/or decorated bicycles for the parade.

4. School Trip - Mr. Baskin is looking into a performance of Annie at Orpheus Theatre for K-5.

5. Square One Art - Michele Wilson is coordinating this. Mrs. Meyers will prepare and send the art within the next two weeks. Cindy Lehr will contact her regarding a VV PTO art project that would be offered to all parents for purchase. Michele Wilson will create an order form with a color picture of the VV PTO art for parent orders.

6. Open Discussion

  • Movie Night on 10/13. Erika Heller will ensure we have snacks. We are in need of a copy of Casper. Tina Stanley is looking at home.
  • Wall Ball - The students have requested a Wall Ball. Cindy Lehr created a plan and is contact with Job Corps/contractors for donated labor to construct the wall. It would be 8 feet tall and 15 feet wide. Cindy will get a firm estimate/plan. The materials cost is estimated at $2500. Mr. Baskin stated that this must be submitted to the district office/insurance company for approval.
  • Box Tops - Dayle Allen shared that $147.50 was collected during Box Top Week.
  • Reflex Math - Dayle Allen reported that 144,000 facts have been solved by the students as of last week.
  • Gertrude Hawk Fundraiser - Michele Wilson shared a letter from the company that will be sent with packets in January for the Easter candy sale. The sale will run 1/29 - 2/12, with delivery the week of March 5.
  • Restaurant/Gift Card Sale - Cindy Lehr is creating a list and will assign restaurants for us to visit. Mr. Baskin volunteered to seek support from Hill City Grille, Toscano's, and Sloans. Michele Wilson offered to seek support from Trendy Foods.
  • Save Around Books - The sale has concluded. We have requested an email be sent regarding the return/last call for orders by Ms. Corna.

Next PTO Meeting: Tuesday, November 7th at 6:30 in the library. Come join us!
