The Mayor’s Fund for London’s mission is to give young Londoners the skills and opportunities to get a decent job, escape the threat of poverty and play a full part in London’s future as the greatest city on earth.

Our Patron is the Mayor of London and our team is based in City Hall.

Our work focuses on three priorities:

  1. Health Safety and Wellbeing - Helping young Londoners to be engaged, healthy and motivated to learn
  1. Skills - Providing extra support for core skills which employers say are absolutely essential, particularly numeracy and literacy
  1. Employment - Supporting employers to create decent and sustainable career prospects for young Londoners

We work with high quality delivery partners to put together partnership projects which provide evidence based interventions supporting and improving a young person’s journey to adulthood.

Tech Up Nation

Tech Up Nation is an employer led project aimed at securing apprenticeships for young Londoners that lead to high quality employment in the tech sector. The project is led by Optimity and the central project team are employed in a project hosted in their offices in Shoreditch. They work in partnership with the Mayor’s Fund for London and The Holts Academy to deliver 2 bespoken apprenticeship programmes.

Community Engagement(£25k to £30k, based on experience)

Job Description: Community Engagement

Reporting:Role reports to the Project Manager

Purpose:To build the profile of the project among local community organisations to generate high quality applications from local young people to participate in the programme.

Responsibilities:Engage with a number of different community groups in London, including schools, colleges, churches, mosques and youth centres, to generate interest in the project.

To secure the commitment of these community groups to actively promote the project to the young people in their communities and put forward suitable candidates together with a sponsor that will support the candidate throughout the programme.

Organise and support potential candidates through the initial interview process to ensure that they are adequately prepared.

Liaise with sponsors so that they are familiar with the programmes different components and the support that they can provide throughout.

Produce activity reports measuring performance to KPIs, to be submitted to the Project Manager

Continuously review progress and make recommendations to improve performance.

Represent the wider interests of the project and identify any potential leads for company engagement.

Key Results:Engage 408 community groups of which 100 commit to participate.

Raise awareness of the project among 10,000 young people.

Secure 850 applications

PERSONAL SEPCIFICATION

  1. Experience of working in a third sector project environment
  2. Strong communication skills with people at a range of levels, by telephone and face to face – excellent interpersonal skills
  3. Ability to liaise and network professionally and successfully
  4. Resilience
  5. To be organized and efficient when working under pressure to achieve tight deadlines.
  6. Ability to prioritise and remain focused when working to targets.
  7. Clarity in verbal and written communication
  8. Confident to speak publicly
  9. Self-motivated.
  10. Excellent grammar and spelling
  11. Working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel
  12. Strong empathy with the intent of both charities and passionate about supporting young people to fulfill their potential
  13. Experience of working in an education setting or an understanding of the Primary and Secondary education
