Overall purpose of the role - The purpose of the role is to manage the finance and support systems of the charity to the required standards in support of our overall goal.

Key Duties

Financial

  • Undertake all financial management and control
  • Maintain Charity SORP, VAT and gift aid
  • Prepare annual audit including Charity SORP
  • Prepare financial advice to trustees, CEO, and Chair of the Finance Committee
  • Liaise on IT support
  • To ensue all relevant aspects of employment law are adhered to
  • Participate in developing strategic plans
  • Ensure the control and balance sheet accounts are regularly reconciled
  • Ensure all the invoices and grant payments are issued promptly and manage a credit control process
  • Transmit accurate and timely information to the payroll bureau and pay all salaries and pension contributions accurately and on time
  • Submit accurate VAT returns on a monthly basis
  • Act as the company secretary

IT

  • Manage the relationship with the outsourced IT service provider
  • Select install and develop Finance, Fundraising and CRM databases
  • Order new IT hardware and software as required and in line with the charity’s strategic plans

HR

  • Manage the relationship with the outsourced service provider
  • Ensure all employees have employment contracts and an up to date copy of the staff handbook
  • Ensure the staff handbook is up to date
  • Ensure that HR staff files are complete and up to date
  • Maintain the holiday records
  • Contribute to the development of commercial activities and manage staff concerns with business generated income
  • Advise on tax and other implications of proposed new business ventures
  • Review commercial performance
  • Write/edit commercial contracts for activities
  • Support bid writing and grant applications
  • Manage our risk register

It is essential candidates have experience of working in the charity sector using Charity SORP and VAT experience.

Person Spec

We are looking for a full or part qualified accountant to support our core business in a high profile charity. There are not a significant number of financial transactions, we are looking for someone who is comfortable with numbers and process and is also happy to move into the wider agenda of support services on a personal level.

The right candidate will demonstrate a flexible approach , have strong interpersonal skills and demonstrate an affinity and empathy with our charitable purpose

Hours: Full Time

Salary: £50k-£55k
