GUIDELINES & PROCEDURES FOR GRADUATE STUDENTS REGISTERING FOR

NURE 5115, 5215, OR 5315 - APPLICATION OF RESEARCH IN NURSING

Purpose:

This course provides an opportunity for qualified students to work closely with a faculty member who is actively engaged in the conduct of research.

(Prerequisite: NURS 5307 Using Research for the Practice of Nursing)

Procedure:

1. The student must make an appointment with the faculty member to secure permission to enroll and to discuss the level of research involvement and the faculty expectations.

2. The student and the faculty member will complete the form.

3. Student and faculty must indicate the following information on the form:

· # of Credit hours being requested

· Title of research project

· Stage(s) of the research process that will be made available to the student during the semester in which he/she is registered; e.g., review of the literature, instrument development, data collection, data analysis

4. Faculty should specify types of activities that are expectations for successful completion of the course; e.g., review and written summaries of literature, generation of instrument items, biweekly progress reports, meetings with research team, etc.

5. Only letter grades will be used for the course work.

6. Faculty and student must sign and date the form. Return the form to the Graduate Nursing Office prior to attempting to register for the course.

7. Faculty and student should each keep a copy of the form. The original will be placed in the student's Graduate Nursing Office file.

Please Note: All arrangements for computer, statistical, or other assistance, through the School of Nursing, must be negotiated and secured by the faculty member with the appropriate resource person at the time that this course is being finalized with the student.

Recommended Due Dates: Submit signed form at the posted registration dates prior to the semester in which the course will be taken.
