Over the past three years, your program has identified student learning outcomes, assessed those outcomes, and used the assessment findings to improve teaching and learning. The Office of University Assessment is now asking you to Close the Loop by reflecting on the past three years of the implementation of stated improvement actions.

After sharing and discussing the 3-year cycle of reports with program faculty, please submit a reflection on your degree programs’ student learning outcomes assessment process, actions you have taken to improve teaching and learning, and any resulting changes to curriculum and pedagogy over the past three years. All Closing the Loop reflections will be archived and used for your next program review cycle.

Questions you may consider when submitting your reflection

  1. In regards to the assessment results, what are you especially proud of about your program? Why?
  2. What concerns you most about the degree program? Why? How have you addressed these concerns?
  3. After discussing the assessment results, what two things might the program do to improve student learning? Explain.
  4. In regards to student learning, what’s one “wish” that you have for your program? Why?
  5. What concerns you most about student learning in your program? Why?
  6. Are the assessment results being used to make a positive impact in our program? How can you tell? What’s different now compared to before? What still needs to be accomplished?
  7. What are the most important characteristics—knowledge, skills, values—that students need before they enter courses in the major? How could students be better prepared for the major?
  8. After participating in the assessment process, what did you learn about students in the program? What did you learn about the curriculum? What one change would you recommend?
  9. What changes in the curriculum or pedagogy were implemented? Please describe.
  10. What changes in the program assessment process were made? Include additions and changes to outcomes, assessment instruments, and/or communication processes.
  11. Are there any ways the Office of University Assessment could help you in strengthening your assessment process/reporting? Please describe.
