Read Me First

Important Notice

All users should read this manual in its entirety before operating the console. It contains important safety and operating information that must be followed to prevent injury to yourself or others, or damage to the console.

Lift Mechanisms (Optional):

Caution: If your console has optional sit-stand lift mechanisms, note that these have been specifically designed to lift the specified equipment on the console worksurface.

Please note that the system is not designed to lift substantial additional loads such as a person sitting on the worksurface or an additional piece of equipment of considerable weight being placed on the worksurface. These types of loadings could cause the lifting mechanisms to be damaged or to be thrown out of sync.

Please consult Evans Consoles if you have a requirement for lifting larger loads than originally specified.

For the Supervisor / Administrator

As it is the responsibility of the employer to provide a safe working environment for its employees, please ensure all operators have read this manual in its entirety, and understand the safety and operating information herein.

Be sure all future users receive this manual and review the safety and operating information.

Chapter 1 – Safety Issues for Sit-Stand Feature (Optional)

General Precautions for Consoles with Lift Mechanisms

This product may have moving parts and contain electrical and heating equipment (Optional).

If there is a Power Outage in your facility the Magnetic Lift Columns MUST BE RESET.

Pinch points and other safety hazards have been designed out of the product as much as feasible; however, they cannot be entirely eliminated.

To avoid injury or damage, it is IMPORTANT to understand and heed the safety information in this, and other sections of this manual.

Optional Lift Columns

The following general precautions apply to the console and must be observed by the operator:

  • Do not place objects or position body parts between the worksurface and the top of the base cabinets. DAMAGE OR INJURY COULD RESULT WHEN THE WORKSURFACE IS LOWERED.
  • Do not disable safety features, such as height adjustment, limit switches, etc. BYPASSING SUCH FEATURES OR GUARDS COULD RESULT IN INJURY OR DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT.
  • The rear panels may be opened with the console in any position. To prevent injury, disconnect power to the console when working inside the cabinet. If height adjustment is necessary (with panels open), turn on power momentarily and keep hands and feet clear of all moving parts and electrical connections.
  • The height and monitor adjustment features are designed for safe operation. To avoid injury the operator should ensure everyone remains clear of the moving worksurface.
  • The console is designed to support expected loads. To prevent overloading, which could cause damage to the unit, or even result in injury;

Do not sit on the worksurface at any time

Do not place or drop heavy objects onto the worksurface, drawers, or processor shelves.

  • Do not move or lift the desk by the worksurface, as this will cause damage to the lift mechanisms.

Electrical / Fire

To avoid injury or damage from electrical hazards:

  • Do not perform electrical work on the console without the proper training and qualifications.
  • Do not perform electrical work, without first disconnecting the electrical power source.
  • Use this console on 120 V ac (North America) power only.
  • Do not operate the controls when standing in water.
  • Do not operate the console if gasoline, paint or other flammable materials are stored or used nearby.
  • Be careful when grouping units on electrical circuits not to overload the wiring and cabling.
  • Ensure that the power supply is regulated. An unstable power supply can affect the operation of the magnetic lift columns. (Use of UPS system is recommended)

Environmental and Electronics Unit (if applicable)

Observe the following additional precautions:

  • Do not operate the fan if the filters are not installed and the filter door is not in place. THE FILTERS REDUCE THE POTENTIAL FOR CONTACT WITH THE ROTATING FAN (if applicable).
  • Use individual cables. Connecting multiple personal environment units on a single data wire to a single external controller may result in ground loops and signal degradation. This could detrimentally affect the operation of the data connections.

Radiant Heater (if applicable)

A knee-space heater may be provided with this console as part of an optional personal environmental control. This heater can only be used in conjunction with HPL or LPL panels. Observe the following additional precautions:

  • Do not touch the heaters hot surfaces. The normal depth of the desk for a seated operator is designed to prevent accidental contact.
  • Do not partially or fully obstruct or cover the front of the heater: for example placing clothing over it or cardboard boxes in front of it. THIS MAY CREATE A FIRE HAZARD.
  • Do not make holes of any kind in the heater. THIS COULD CAUSE DAMAGE AND CREATE A FIRE OR ELECTRICAL HAZARD.

Chapter 2 – Maintenance

Cleaning

Regular dusting / vacuuming of all surfaces is recommended to help maintain their beauty and longevity.

Laminates Cleaning Procedure

1Clean surfaces with a soft damp cloth.

2If stains are present, use a mild soap. Any ammonia-free kitchen counter cleaner may also be used for quick on-site cleaning.

3Wipe all surfaces free from soap residue with a clean, damp (not wet) cloth and dry with a soft cloth (or air dry).

Painted Surfaces Cleaning Procedure

1Use a soft damp cloth (not wet) for general cleaning purposes.

2If stains are present, use a mild soap. Avoid using any other cleaning fluid.

Wood Veneer Cleaning Procedure (If Applicable)

1Use a soft damp cloth (not wet) for general cleaning purposes.

2To protect the surface and enhance beauty, use a product such as Murphy’s Oil Soap® (or similar quality wood protector)

Fabric Cleaning Procedure (If Applicable)

1Use special vacuum attachments only when cleaning fabric panels, never use stiff fibre of metal brush.

2Avoid any liquid cleaning agent. To remove spots, use a damp adsorbent cloth to soak excess liquid. Never soak fabric when cleaning.

Magnetic Lift Column (Optional) Cleaning Procedure

If an actuator becomes dirty it should be cleaned immediately in order to prevent the accumulation of residues.

1Wipe the column with a damp cloth and water. If necessary a small amount of Isopropyl alcohol can be used.

2Ensure that washing water with chemical additives is pH-neutral. Excessively acidic or alkaline water can permanently damage the columns.

3High-pressure steam cleaning equipment must not be used.

Work Surface (Polyurethane Waterfall and PVC) Nosing

  1. Clean surface with a soft cloth dampened with mild soap and water only.
  2. Avoid wiping the nosing surface with any acetone and isopropyl based cleaning agents as these can potentially cause significant deterioration of the nosing material.
  3. Note that Evans Consoles cannot unfortunately recommend any specific cleaning agent or product because we cannot control the ever-changing “new improved” chemical formulations within each cleaning product.

Magnetic Lift Columns Maintenance (Optional)

Starting up

The Start up Procedure is done at the Evans Consoles manufacturing facility. This is done by the following procedure:

1Ensure that the installation and the electrical connections have been correctly carried out.

2Press the switch for work surface control in the down position. Keep this key pressed until the table reaches the lower end position. The table then stops automatically. Keep pressed. After about 5 seconds the table again moves slowly downwards, until it reaches the absolute end position (only if Lift Columns are out of alignment). The table again stops automatically.

3Before shipping the console, the table will be raised at least 3 inches from the lowest position.

Reset Procedure

In order to reset the Magnetic lift columns repeat steps 1 and 2 of the Start up Sequence.

The Reset procedure shall be done periodically and after any power interruptions have been experienced.

Door Hinge Adjustment

Any Hinged panels on this console are easy to adjust and remove / reinstall.

Removing and Reinstalling of Hinged Panels

1To remove a hinged panel, simply press the rectangular release tab at the rear of the hinge towards the mount plate and pull the panel away from the hinge bracket (see circled area in figure below).

2To install a hinged panel, align the hinges with the hinge brackets and snap into place.

Adjustment

1Using a Phillips (or a small Robertson) screwdriver, tighten or loosen the adjustment screws until panels are level and at the same height. If it is necessary to raise or lower the whole panel:

Loosen the plate fixing screws and height adjustment screw.

Move the panel into position.

Tighten the height adjuster, then the plate fixing screws.

2The left-hand screw head is used to adjust the left-right setting of the hinge.

3The right-hand screw head will move the panel towards or away from the frame to ensure the panels are flush with one another on a vertical plane.

4Maintain an even and equidistant gap between panels, ensuring they open and close without interference.
