USEDA HIGH SCHOOL ATHLETE APPLICATION

UNITED STATES EQUESTRIAN DRILL ASSOCIATION

The United States Equestrian Drill Association acknowledges that most high school equestrian athletes are not recognized by their school athletic programs unless their equestrian team is directly associated with the high school at the varsity level. In many states, organized programs at the high school level do not exist. The equestrian athlete dedicates as much, if not more, time preparing for competition as does any other athlete in a high school program. Additionally,

Time commitments required of equestrian athletes often precludes them from participating in additional varsity sports programs. As the National Governing Body for Equestrian Drill, The USEDA has created a program to recognize young equestrians’ accomplishments and to support their future involvement in the sport.

In addition to providing recognition consistent with other high school varsity programs, the USEDA honors these equestrian athletes not only for advancing their individual skills while training and competing, and perhaps more importantly, for fostering the unique and often challenging human-to-animal connection required to create and sustain the teamwork and mutual respect required of a successful equestrian athlete/equine combination; thereby recognizing and rewarding their efforts in the unique and unparalleled team sport of Equestrian Drill.

THE FOLLOWING IS THE REQUISITE CRITERIA FOR RECOGNITION WITHIN THIS PROGRAM:

1. Current USEDA member in good standing – If your team is not a USEDA member, individual membership status is acceptable. See membership form.

2. Current enrollment in high school or verified home schooling program, grades 9-12. A high school transcript or report card is required for proof of enrollment.

3. Record at least 50 hours of equestrian practice/training

(Riding/competition/parades/practice/clinic) from June 1 through May 31 on the log form.

4. Compete in at least One (1) USEDA-Licensed/Sanctioned Competitions per year, or at least Three (3) competitions affiliated with, or sanctioned by a horse show association. (Results to be included with submission of log and other required materials.)
