US History Guidelines

2015-2016

Introduction:
Welcome to Coach Brooks’ US History class! We will begin the year with a brief overview of US History before the Civil War and then pick up with Reconstruction (that’s after the Civil War) and end with more recent events. I highly recommend you check my web site, listed below, where I will have resources that we use in class and other links for your benefit.

Assignments/Late Work:

Most work you will have time to finish in class if you use that time wisely. I also expect all work to be handed in on time. I understand situations will arise but you are still expected to complete your work in a timely manner. You will always have plenty of notice before work is due. Quizzes and tests will typically be given over every chapter. We will also do a few projects throughout the year. For more see SHS Grading Policy.

For your success in this class I highly recommend work be turned in and on time. If for some unfortunate reason work is turned in late, 10 points will be taken off each day up to 3 days. After 3 days a “0” will be issued.

Grading:

Progress reports will be sent out every three weeks, regardless of your grade.

Tests -50%

Quizzes/Daily Work-50%

Retest Policy:

In the unfortunate circumstance you do badly on a test, you have the option to correct a retest. Every student has this option and a timetable will be set for this to be complete.

Cheating:

Cheating of any kind will NOT be tolerated. This includes daily work, not just tests and quizzes. Your assignment will be taken up, parents will be contacted, and a referral will be written.

Absences:

When you are absent it is your responsibility to get your missed work. Please wait until an appropriate time to ask what you missed. You have 1 day for every day absent to complete work.

Expectations:

I expect students to be on time and ready for class when the bell rings.

I expect students to respect each other and myself.

I expect students to work hard and always do their best.

Textbooks:

A classroom set of books will be kept in class. You will also be given instructions on how to access the textbook outside of class online if for someone you need it and you do not have your book. Textbooks are school property and should be cared for properly.

Supplies

Something to keep your notes and work in

Pens/Pencils

Classroom Procedures:

*Absolutely NO food or drinks allowed with the exception of bottled water.

*Cell phones and music devices are a privilege, not a right. I will inform a student when it is okay to use them. DO NOT assume it is ok and use them in class or they will be taken up. This is subject to change and I will let students know of those changes.

Let’s have a great year!
