Course Description:

United States History and Geography: Post Reconstruction to the Present

Students will examine the causes and consequences of the Industrial Revolution and America’s growing role in world diplomatic relations, including the Spanish-American War and World War I. Students will study the goals and accomplishments of the Progressive movement and the New Deal. Students will also learn about the various factors that led to America’s entry into World War II, as well as its consequences for American life. Students will explore the causes and course of the Cold War. Students will study the important social, cultural, economic, and political changes resulting from the Civil Rights Movement, the Cold War, and recent events and trends that have shaped modern-day America. Additionally, students will learn the causes and consequences of contemporary issues impacting their world today. Students will continue to use skills for historical and geographical analysis as they examine American history since Reconstruction with special attention to Tennessee connections in history, geography, politics, and people. Students will continue to learn fundamental concepts in civics, economics, and geography within the context of United States history. The reading of primary source documents is a key feature of United States history standards. Finally, students will focus on current human and physical geographic issues important in contemporary America and the global society.

Throughout the course of this class we will learn about a number of different groups of Americans. During this time I encourage each student to have an accepting and tolerant mind-set as we explore the variety and diversity of our nation.

Late Assignments: If you are absent from school you have the number of days you were absent from the time the work was assigned to turn in the work. You should check Edmodo.com for your assignments first. This will be the way I send all work to you once we receive our laptops.

For example if I assign a worksheet on Monday and you are out sick that day and return Tuesday then the worksheet would be due the following day on Wednesday.

If you are absent the day a Project is due you will be allowed to turn in the Project the day you return to school. I have put this in place because Projects will be long term assignments that you will have many days, and even weeks, notice to complete and therefore should not require any additional time to complete.

All late assignments will be graded with a 10% penalty each day it is late. This late penalty will cap out at 50%. This means that any assignment has the potential to earn 50%, if you still only completed part of the assignment additional points would be lost for incompleteness. All assignments are due before the end of the quarter in which they were assigned. Remember, some points are better than no points.

Restroom Breaks:You have 5 minutes between classes and a lunch period during which you are expected to take a restroom break. Therefore you will only be allowed to the restroom if it is an emergency.

PLEASE KEEP THIS IN YOUR FOLDER FOR EASY REFERENCE DURING THE YEAR
