Competition Venue

The 2014 Boccia National Tournament will be held May 14- 17 in East Lansing, Michigan at the Michigan State University campus. Competition will be held at the IM West building. Athlete/ Team check in will be held at North Case Hall. Details to come with completed registration.

The 2014 Boccia National Tournament Room and Board

Your competition registration fee will include housing within the Michigan State University Case Hall Dormitory. Roommates will be assigned for each participant/ coach. Teams and athletes are able to complete housing form to notify of preference of roommate. Since this competition is being held at the same time as the Michigan Victory Games, a limited number of rooms have been reserved for US Boccia National participants. It is advised you complete your paperwork and housing forms ASAP to ensure a reservation. No arrivals earlier than May 14th will be allowed without permission. Early arrival requests must be made in writing to Stella Husch, Games Director, no later than March 24, 2014. Permitted early arrivals will be subject to additional housing and meal fees. See schedule on page 8 for meal times and availability. Meals included with registration are Wednesday dinner, Thursday- Saturday breakfast-lunch-dinner and Sunday breakfast.

Preferred Airport is Lansing Capital Regional International Airport (Formerly Capital City Airport) in Lansing, Michigan.

Transportation will only be provided from Capital Regional International Airport to Case Hall Dorms on MSU Campus only. Transportation requests must be submitted in writing to Games Director, Stella Husch, by March 24, 2014. No exceptions. Transportation will be an additional per person fee. Transportation will only be set up for a 4 hour time period for all teams/ athletes. Therefore, it is advised you set a travel schedule prior to 24th so that you are not without transportation needs. MiDSA and Strive Recreational Therapy reserve the right to refuse transportation and will refund fee should participants travel during an unreasonable time or did not give proper paid notification of the need by March 24th. Alternate airport can be Detroit Metropolitan Airport should you not require transportation. Detroit Metro Airport (DTW) is about 1 hr and 15 minutes from Lansing but no transportation is provided by Michigan Victory Games from this DTW airport.

Classification

We will have a full classification panel at this nationals. Athletes who do not have a national classification must be classified. Athletes that need to be classified for this event must indicate this on the Classification Request Form #2. Classification will be scheduled after all registration forms are received, and individuals will be contacted with scheduled date/times. The athlete may request a preferred time and time slots will be given on a first come, first serve basis. If you fail to appear for your classification appointment, you may not be allowed to compete in the official tournament.

Eligibility

An athlete’s eligibility for the National Boccia Championships is based on meeting the classification requirements outlined in the BISFed Boccia Rules- Dec. 4 edition.

Governing Rules

Competition Structure

Individual play will be offered according to the following:

Athletes will be divided into the following categories:

National Competition*: Ages 11 and above BC1, BC2, BC3, BC4, (see BISFed Boccia rules for classification explanation).

Juniors: Ages 6-10

Open: Ages 11 and above, any disability

*National Boccia Competition is offered for players who are at least 11 years of age as of Jan.1. 2014. Players 11 years old and older will be able to earn national ranking points.

Athletes who wish to enter regionals only are able to sign up as a Michigan Victory Games athlete and compete in the separate boccia event held concurrently. Please visit the MVG website at www.MichiganVictoryGames.org or contact Stella Husch, Games Director, at 248.922.1236 for questions.

Team, BC3 Pairs, and BC4 Pairs:

Team and Pair Play is highly recommended. Teams and Pairs must fill out the TEAM AND PAIRS REGISTRATION FORM #1 in this packet. Please arrange your team or pair before committing the names on the registration form. Individuals who don’t have team/pairs partners may request to be assigned partners. *See form for further detail.

Registration Deadline

The Registration deadline is Friday, March 28 2014. Roster and full payment for tournament registration and both the MiDSA and BlazeSports membership fees must be received by 5:00 pm, Friday, April 18th. All registration forms and registration payment must be sent directly to Michigan Victory Games c/o Strive, 7111 Dixie Hwy, #123, Clarkston, MI 48346. Makes checks payable to MICHIGAN DISABILITY SPORTS ALLIANCE. Questions regarding registration and transportation from airport can be directed to Stella Husch, Games Director, at (248) 922- 1236.

Equipment Check and Storage

Equipment will be checked and certified between 9am – 5 pm at the IM West

Building on May 14th for all teams and individuals whether or not you are staying on Michigan State University Campus assigned dorms. NOTE: You will be notified of your equipment check in time 3 days prior to the competition. Please note that your equipment check in time may be earlier than scheduled Housing check in times at Case Hall.

Chairs, ramps and other devices will be tagged. Balls will be weighed and

measured but will not be stamped. You will be notified if you have an illegal ball(s) and you will be asked to take them out of play. Random ball checks will be done in the call room.

If a player presents an illegal ball for play, he/she will be given a warning and the ball will be kept with the games staff and the player’s name will be posted near the call room. If during the tournament the player again presents an illegal ball for play, he/she will forfeit the match.

A secured storage room is available for athletes to store equipment at the

competition venue. While the room will be locked, the L.O.C. will not be held responsible for lost, stolen or damaged equipment.

All coaches, ramp assistants and athletes (those who will need access to the field of play) must pay the indicated $375 fee and BlazeSports and MIDSA membership fees. PCAs that do not require access to the field of play do NOT have to pay a registration fee but will be not be housed or have meals provided to them. Therefore, additional alternate housing/ meals may be needed. Registration fee includes competition, tee shirt, room and board, award banquet dance and opening and closing ceremonies. If you are not staying on campus, the fee is the same.

It is suggested that all BC3 Sport Assistants have a BC3 Sport Assistant Certification, but it will not be required until 2015.

Family members, PCA’s and friends that do not pay the registration fee may pay for meal tickets in order to dine with the athletes. Only registered athletes/ coaches paid will be able to dine in Main Dining hall. Additional tickets must be purchased by the April 18th deadline. Those not wanting to stay at the dormitory are required to make their own housing arrangements. Meals included with registration are Wednesday dinner, Thursday- Saturday breakfast-lunch-dinner and Sunday breakfast.

Transportation will be provided from Capital Region International Airport to the host dormitory and back on the designated days and times ONLY as well as to and from the venue according to the listed times to be determined in the schedule as the tournament is finalized.

Transportation will be provided to only those who have paid the transportation fee and completed the transportation request form in the registration packet. No additional requests will be taken on site. The shuttle will be offered from the Capital Region International Airport only. Those flying into alternate airports will be required to get their own transportation needs met.
