August 22 Bag of the Month Class

Ursula & Emily Purse

This purse is small but mighty! Open the magnetic flap on the front to reveal 6 credit card slots and one ID window. Also up front is a zip pocket large enough to hold paper money or keys. On the back there’s a slash pocket the full width of the purse to hold coupons and receipts and on the sides are pouch pockets for sunglasses, phone or water bottle. The lining includes another zip pocket and two patch pockets. It closes at the tip with a zipper too. You get to choose between shoulder straps or across the body strap. This is the most organized pattern I’ve ever used. It even has numbered labels that you can cut out and pin to each piece. Wow!

Here's what to bring:

Sewing machine in good working order, 90 and 100 topstitch needles, sharp snip scissors, paper scissors to cut the zippers, and a marking pencil or pen that does not disappear with heat. I used a Sewline Trio that we carry at the shop. It has 3 different color points - pink, white and black - to show on a multitude of fabrics.

Please bring whatever else you usually use to sew with such as seam rippers, threads, bobbins and an extra needle or 2 just in case.

Here’s how to get ready for class:

What to do before class:

_____ Using the cutting directions in the pattern, prepare your fabric pieces as directed. You will cut off part of the outer and lining fabrics and iron on the décor bond before you cut out the pieces. Just make sure you use a little steam when fusing it to the back of the fabric. It takes a bit more effort to really fuse décor bond on. This makes it so much easier in the long run. Watch out for the number of pieces to cut out of each size. A few labels tell you to cut 2 – not just 1. Please cut out and pin each label to the appropriate pieces.

The pattern does a good job of showing pictures when cutting out the pieces. Please bring your extra fabric to class. We will be cutting out a few pieces as we go along. Oh, and it shows cutting the bias trim – binding – on the bias (45-degree angle). This is important so please follow these directions.

I will have a tagboard copy of the 3 pattern pieces here for you so don’t worry about the tracing paper or plastic template listed on the pattern. You won’t need that.

If you have any questions, please call the shop or e-mail me any time.

Thanks,

Lisa
