Emit Report – February 13, 2012

Update on Pre-builts:

·  It was noted thatwe plan to handle placement for ENG 100 the same way again for

Fall 2012‐using SAT and ACT scores

·  Suggestion was made that we offer writing placement exams for any

student who does not have an ACT or SAT score, and do this for Summer,

Fall and Spring terms – there appeared to be consensus support for this

VCAA shared data on pre‐census course fill rates

·  Note that the ideal rate is an average fill rate of about 80%

·  We do have to keep in mind that this is reflective of how we set course caps‐we

changed the policy starting this year that course caps will reflect the room capacity

·  We will get an updated analysis post‐census to see what, if anything, has changed

Summer session purpose/mission (discussion continued from last time)

o Corinne shared what is currently communicated in Summer Session promotional

materials, as well as what Summer Session enrollees indicated in SurveyMonkey

(checking all reasons that applied) were their reasons for taking courses during

Summer Session:

·  Accelerate graduation – 141 (63.8%)

·  Course(s) not offered during the regular semesters – 56 (25.3%)

·  Concentrate on one intensive course – 55 (24.9%)

·  Lowered tuition – 42 (19.0%)

·  Curriculum of classes offered – 33 (14.9%)

·  Make up for failed class – 25 (11.3%)

·  Location of college – 19 (8.6%)

·  Recommended by friend – 18 (8.1%)

Call for course proposals for Summer Session goes out in October‐theoretically, we

should offer courses based on what we believe is the purpose/mission of Summer

Session
