UPDATE ON BUILDING June 15

On Monday June 12, Jim Nord and representatives from Beckenhauer Construction met with members of the congregation to report the findings of Beckenhauer’s initial estimate of cost.

The numbers came in slightly higher than the estimate of our architect, TSP, who initially projected a project cost more than one year ago. From here Beckenhauer and TSP will be looking for ways to reduce cost of the project. They will also be looking for the most efficient way to stage the project that enables us to continue all our ministry in our new location. They will keep us informed as they continue their work on the project.

In the meantime, there are many things we can do as a congregation to advance the project. First, pray. Pray for Beckenhauer, TSP, Jim Nord, the building team and all those involved in the project.

We can also pray for God’s continued blessings on His ministry at Our Savior including worship, our mission teams to Mexico and Colorado and our summer VBS program. We also need to pray for the sale of our current building. We have recently received two inquires. Finally, if you have not yet taken the opportunity to fill out a pledge card, now is the time as the project is underway.

UPDATE ON BUILDING June 1

At the May meeting of the MLC they approved the recommendation of the building committee to contract with Beckenhauer Construction, to serve as our Construction Manager at Risk.

Beckenhauer's first task will be to verify the cost projections provided by our architects TSP. Once this is completed in early June, Beckenhauer and TSP will begin working hand in hand to develop the next set of drawings for the congregation’s approval.

They will also be looking for ways to remove 1.4 million from the first phase of the project in order to stay within our current budget.

Continue to pray for of committees, architects and construction manager at this time.

UPDATE ON BUILDING May 25

On Monday, May 8, Jim Nord met with the Mission/Ministry, Funding/Finance and Building/Planning committees at Our Savior. The committees each received an update on the capital campaign to date.

While the yield of the campaign is $4.1 million, it stops short of allowing us to build the entire scope that we all desire. As we all celebrated the success of the “Point Me” campaign, we focused on the need to reduce the scope of the work. In short, we need to reduce the amount of construction by about $.5 to $2 million. The consensus in each meeting was the Education space, including the kitchen shall be built as designed. The Sanctuary, which will be used for Traditional worship, together with the Narthex, are also a high priority, though they may not be finished at the level we initially intended to save initial cost. It is possible that these spaces will need to be further reduced to meet budget. All three groups believed the Worship Center, used for Contemporary worship could be outfitted with existing chairs and sound system to save money as well. This room is large, and can save considerable money if it is built “bare bones” for now, this space will be finished to initial plans later. This allows us to reduce initial cost while still providing an adequate worship space. These are challenging decisions for the committees. Much of our cost cannot be reduced, as there are building codes and zoning regulations that must be completed without reduction to maintain a functional and safe place for us, and our visitors. These elements will not be compromised.

In addition, the finance committee discussed the sale of our current building, as well as both short term and long term financing. The Building Committee is preparing to begin construction! They have made a recommendation to the MLC regarding the hiring of a Contractor to join our team to serve as Construction Manager at risk. We expect construction to start early this fall!

Our architects, TSP, were also present for the meetings to gain insight on design revisions to meet our reduced budget. They will begin their work immediately to prepare for the fall construction.

We thank all of you who have generously and sacrificially shared your resources to make this incredible building possible. We also encourage any that have not yet had an opportunity to contribute to prayerfully consider what God has shared with you to share with others as we move forward boldly to “Point People to Christ!”

As always this is an open meeting and we encourage the congregation to join us for this informative meeting.
