Reminders:

  • Band began yesterday and a schedule was given to the students. Please remind you son/daughter to have his/her instrument and book in school for band class.
  • Monday – Clarinet & Trombone
  • Tuesday – Flute & Percussion
  • Friday - Trumpet
  • We have now started all of our subjects. We have developed a routine so the year is off to a great start. Your child should be able to get most of his/her work completed in school if he/she works efficiently.
  • Although I do not require the students to have their planner page signed each night, I would appreciate that you look at them nightly. They should come home every night even if the student does not have homework. The students are to write all of their assignments on their planner sheet and check them off when they are finished. By reviewing them, you will know what we are studying and what your child needs to do for homework.
  • My lesson plans and a copy of this newsletterare on the school website. Keep informed please.
  • Last week, the students took the STAR reading and math assessment. A report on your son/daughter’s progress is included in the mail folder. These are for your review and do not need to be returned.
  • As outlined in the 5th Grade Handbook, the students will be using Accelerated Reader this year. Each child has a point goal for the quarter according to his/her Lexile. Therefore, not all point goals are the same. Each book that your child reads in his/her Lexile will have a point value. The student will earn points according to the number of questions that he/she gets correct on the AR quiz. At the end of the quarter, the student will receive a percentage grade according to the number of points he/she earned compared to his/her goal. The grade will be a part of his/herreading grade.
  • All students should be capable of reaching their goals; therefore, each child should earn a 100% for this portion of their reading grade.
  • Accelerated Reader 1st Quarter Goal: ______
  • Lexile Range: ______
  • Last week, I sent home a task for parents to complete. I would like you to write me a letter about your son/daughter. I have attached the task to this newsletter if I have not received one from you.
  • Please review your son/daughter’s folder contents, sign the back of the folder, and return to the school tomorrow. I would like to know of any concerns or suggestions you may have immediately.

Have a great week,

Mrs. Hager
