A RESOLUTION adjourning the House of Representatives in loving memory and honor of John William "J. W." Thompson.

With deepest respect and admiration, we pay homage and tribute to John William "J. W." Thompson, and we pause in silent reverence for his soul.

WHEREAS, J. W. Thompson was born on September 11, 1927, a native of Fancy Farm, Graves County, Kentucky, and he traversed these earthly bounds on January 25, 2003; and

WHEREAS, J. W. Thompson was the loving son of the late John Young Brown and Mary Alma Hayden Thompson, and he was also preceded in death by two sisters, Annie Buckman and Antonia "Toni" Stevens, and a brother, Robert "Sonny" Buckman; he was the devoted husband of 50 years to Mary Lou Mills Thompson; he was the adored father of a son, James Brown "Jimmy" Thompson, and a daughter, Mary Edna Thompson Samples; and he was the proud grandfather of six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; and he also leaves behind a brother, Raymond Thompson, and two sisters, Mable Higdon and Henrietta Frank, all of Fancy Farm; and

WHEREAS, J. W. Thompson served his country with pride and distinction in the United States Navy "Seabees," during World War II; and he was a member of the Disabled American Veterans and a lifetime member of the American Legion; and

WHEREAS, J. W. Thompson was an esteemed member of the Graves County community, where he was a devout member of St. Jerome Catholic Church; he was a successful business man and co-owned and operated Brown Thompson Meat Packing Plant; and

WHEREAS, J. W. Thompson was an active and involved citizen and he was past mayor of Fancy Farm; throughout the years, he coached girls' summer league softball, was the chairman of several Fancy Farm Picnics, helped create and was chief of the Fancy Farm Fire Department; and he also served as Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus of Fancy Farm; and

WHEREAS, the passing of J. W. Thompson has left a void that cannot be filled, and he is mourned across the length and breadth of the Commonwealth;

NOW, THEREFORE,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky:

Section 1. The House of Representatives does hereby express its profound sense of sorrow upon the passing of John William "J. W." Thompson, and extends to his family and many friends its most heartfelt sympathy.

Section 2. When the House of Representatives adjourns this day, it does so in loving memory and honor of John William "J. W." Thompson.

Section 3. The Clerk of the House of Representatives is hereby directed to transmit a copy of this Resolution to Mrs. Mary Lou Mills Thompson, 10521 Hwy. 80 W, Fancy Farm, Kentucky 42039.
