A RESOLUTION adjourning the Senate in loving memory and honor of Elaine Gordon Nichols Beshear.

With deepest respect and admiration, we pay homage and tribute to Elaine Gordon Nichols Beshear, and we pause in silent reverence for her soul.

WHEREAS, Elaine Gordon Nichols Beshear was born on February 4, 1930, a native of Dawson Springs, and longtime resident of Madisonville, Hopkins County, Kentucky, and she traversed these earthly bounds on February 25, 2001; and

WHEREAS, Elaine Gordon Nichols Beshear was the loving daughter of the late Earle Moren Nichols and Opal Beshear Nichols; she was the beloved wife of thirty-seven years to Charles Edward Beshear; and she was a loving sister to Frederick E. Nichols, of Madisonville, and to her sisters-in-law Brenda Beshear Bruning, of Carmel, Indiana, and Suzanne Beshear Hammelman, of Poseyville, Indiana; and she was the loving aunt of her nieces Denise Ann Bruning Olano, of Adrian, Michigan, Elizabeth Hammelman Webb, of Orlando, Florida, and Leigh Nichols Moore, of Louisville; and her nephews, Gordon Earle Nichols, of Nashville, Tennessee, Christopher R. Nichols, of Madisonville, and Mark Alan Hammelman, of Evansville, Indiana; and fourteen grand-nieces and grand-nephews; and

WHEREAS, Elaine Gordon Nichols Beshear graduated from Madisonville High School, and she attended Stephens College in Columbia, Missouri, and the University of Kentucky, where she was a member of Kappa Delta Sorority; and

WHEREAS, Elaine Gordon Nichols Beshear was an esteemed member of the Madisonville, Hopkins County community; she was a member of the Dawson Springs Primitive Baptist Church, where her funeral service was held on February 28, 2001; and she was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the United Daughters of the Confederacy; and

WHEREAS, the passing of Elaine Gordon Nichols Beshear has left a void that will be difficult to fill, and she is mourned across the length and breadth of the Commonwealth;

NOW, THEREFORE,

Be it resolved by the Senate of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky:

Section 1. The Senate does hereby express its profound sense of sorrow upon the passing of Elaine Gordon Nichols Beshear, and extends to her family and friends its most heartfelt sympathy.

Section 2. When the Senate adjourns this day, it does so in loving memory and honor of Elaine Gordon Nichols Beshear.

Section 3. The Clerk of the Senate is hereby directed to transmit a copy of this Resolution to Mr. Charles Edward Beshear, 336 Hall Street, Madisonville, Kentucky 42431.
