Grant-Funded Student Standards of Progress UNMCE B&T Training

If you receive financial aid from a grant-funded agency, including WIA, DVR or the VA, you are required to follow the Standards of Progress policies listed below. A copy of this document is available on the UNMCE website at:

1. Meet with Your Program Supervisor for Advisement

Meet with the Program Supervisor prior to starting your certificate program and/or prior to the beginning of each semester to determine your schedule and to fill out any necessary paperwork.

2. Provide Previous Education and Experience

We recommend that you bring documentation of any previous education and relevant experience (for example: transcripts, portfolios and/or samples of your work) to the first meeting with your Program Supervisor to ensure proper class placement and curriculum choices that meet funding requirements.

3. Follow the Course Completion Standard

100% attendance and a passing grade of 70% are required to complete a course. The instructor will submit one of your tests or assignments with the passing grade to the department for your file. He or she may ask you to turn in a specific assignment or to complete an extra assignment to fulfill this requirement. Some certificate programs or national certifications may have additional requirements. Check with your Program Supervisor for details.

4. Request Your Program Certificate

Upon successful completion of all the required classes and electives in your certificate program, as stated in the course catalog or as approved by the Program Supervisor and funding agency, submit a request in writing or via email for your Program Certificate. List the certificate requested, your full name, mailing address, phone number, email address, and documentation of any approved course substitutions. Please allow two weeks from the time we receive your paperwork to process your certificate.

Please note: You have up to two years to complete your approved program of study. After two years, your requirements may change and/or your funding may be terminated.

5. Maintain Standards of Progress

It is your responsibility to maintain adequate standards of progress as outlined above. If you are unable to attend scheduled classes or your records do not include samples for your passing grade, you and your funding agency will be notified of the unsatisfactory performance. A make-up request is available in most cases and a meeting with the Program Supervisor will be required to determine the best way to proceed.

In addition to progress standards, please also take note of the UNM Student Code of Conduct policy on the UNM website at

I, ______, have read the Grant-Funded Standards of Progress policies and understand and agree to the information listed above.
