Graduate Student Association Update

/ Ms. Schulz announced that approximately 100 students are attending the core classes this semester. The first GSA meeting of the year was held on August 12. White Coat Ceremony is scheduled for September 14. Nominations for core representatives to the GSA are due next week. Students were concerned about the lack of faculty attendance at the Meet the Faculty Lunch held during new student orientation. / No action required.

Library Update

/ Ms. Smith announced that Majors Bookstore representatives would be on campus during new student orientation periods with class books to sell. The library has requested bids to add electric outlets, freeing up more space for studying. / No action required.

Executive Summary

/ Dr. Vishwanatha distributed selections from the 2007 Comprehensive Student Life Survey for the council to review. Dr. Yorio has requested that each Graduate Advisor, as well as the GSA, develop top 10 concerns for the GSBS. / No action required.

Course Schedules

/ Dr. Vishwanatha announced that Dr. Ransom has requested that each school have their course listings at least two years in advance. Doug Mains will be leading the taskforce to coordinate this project. / No action required.

/ The next Graduate Council meeting is scheduled for Thursday, September 13, 2007 at 3:00 PM in EAD-810.
·  The Sonny Singh Open was a big success and $1,070 will be donated to the Rachel Dauphin Scholarship.
·  White Coat Ceremony is scheduled for 9/14.
·  Outstanding Faculty Seminar for Harlan Jones is scheduled for 9/27.
·  Presidential inauguration is scheduled for 10/19. / No action required.
