Context / The Engine Shed, Tower Bars and LPAC are situated on the Brayford Wharf Campus of the University.
The three venues are key to the commercial strategy of the University of Lincoln as well as key players in the provision of a 360 degree student experience.
The team behind both the venue, bars and theatre combine their knowledge, professional expertise and specialism to provide a diverse range of entertainments and activities to the student population and the general public.
The main areas of focus are the development of the Tower Bars, 3 student club brands, live music programme and commercial hires.
Job Purpose / Lead and Manage the corporate hire and private parties event service of the Engine Shed.
Lead the Engine Shed Bar Management team.
Where required act as Duty Manager for the Engine Shed and Tower Bars
Lead the management and development of Student Union event activity for clubs, societies and small student groups in the Engine Shed.
Assist the Venue Manager to diversify income streams for non live/comedy/commercial events.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Licensing and LiabilityTo be a personal license holder and perform the delegated duties from the building’s DPS in the Engine Shed.
To be responsible for bar staff and sale of alcohol for the venues bars.
To be responsible for staff and customer safety.
To observe as applicable and ensure staff conform to the following to ensure that the University of Lincoln and Engine Shed does not become liable to legislative claims;
· Licensing Laws
· Security arrangements
· Procedure and instructions relating to fire and accidents
· Hygiene and Health and Safety Regulations.
· All aspects on consumer law
Planning and Organisation
Plan, organise, instigate and manage the provisions of service by the Engine Shed and Tower Bars in all aspects of the Hire and Event Service provision of service using professional experience and expertise to provide a bespoke event service to a wide range of clients and for a wide range of events.
Liaise with bars, events and technical departments to ensure, with the Venue Manager, that all venue requirements for events are provided, managed and the provision of service for the venues is of the highest standard.
Logistics and Event Management
Manage events as required including venue representation and Duty management including leading and managing event staff including technical, security, health and safety, venue staff and bar management.
With the Venue Manager, manage all venue staffing and operational requirements including the upkeep/maintenance of the venue and bar.
Financial Planning, Budgeting and Cash Handling
Manage the budgeting and charges for all the Engine Shed Hire and Event Service.
Maintain financial records of all events and performance, reporting event and bar performance and financial turnover.
Oversee the management of the venue bar operation and stock ordering budgetary control and maintain service levels.
Manage the cash handling and cashing up/banking of tills to ensure all income and expenditure is accounted for.
Customer Relationships, Communication and Customer Service
To demonstrate leadership in customer service, enabling staff to witness quality customer care.
To develop the team enabling them to deliver excellent customer service.
Ensure all staff provide a welcoming atmosphere for customers to encourage repeat business and deliver top quality product.
Maintain and develop the customer database of the corporate customers, actioning strategies to optimise the use of the database to provide increased marketability of the Engine Shed Hire and Events Service,
ensuring any reactionary change where appropriate to ensure clients, potential clients and event attendees receive the highest standard of service.
Utilise skills in conflict management to resolve situations, often in high stress situations, with the public, students, artistes and staff.
Business Strategy and Development
Formulate and run, with the Venue Manager, a marketing strategy for the Engine Shed Hire and Events Service.Develop and implement, with, Tower Bars team, Catering and Technical, a business plan for the growth of the corporate and private event service.
Lead the Venue Bars to optimise the spend per head and gross profit margins for the bar service at the varied events held in the venues.
Standards
To maintain the event service to highest standard within Health and Safety guidelines throughout the trading period ensuring operational procedures and policies and guidelines are adhered to.Ensure all staff and contractors adhere to the venues policy on personal hygiene and uniforms representing the venue and University in the appropriate light.
In addition, undertake such duties as may reasonably be requested and that are commensurate with the nature and grade of the post.
